Surface 2 will not usb boot and stuck in preparing automatic repair

Good evening

I am looking at a surface 2 for a friend
it is blue screening, the error message goes off very quickly.

I have tried the two button reset
downloaded the recovery media
downloaded a windows 8 iso

nothing works as when i press volume down and power
or volume up and power it doesnt allow me to select the boot device

it then just boots to preparing automatic repair where it is now stuck, it eventually goes off and starts again

has anyone got any ideas?

Make sure your USB stick is formatted in FAT32, then extract the files from the compressed restore file you downloaded (Surface2_BMR_10.2.19.0.zip) IE. to that USB stick.
It MUST be formatted in FAT32 otherwise it will not be recognized.
Use this utility from Ridgecrop Consultants Ltd If you have trouble doing that from your current version of windows.
After this is you should have no trouble booting from it using the volume down and power sequence.

Also, Windows 8 ISO will also not work as this tablet in not x86 architecture you need Windows RT (as provided by the surface 2 recovery media).

I have the same problem and am wondering if you managed to solve the issue. My Surface 2 is 2.5 years old - is this the end for it?
