send files to Mail program

I learned this today so I have to add it FYI. You can send images from the Photo app by selecting the image, opening up charms bar, and selecting Share. Sharing brought up my Email app as an option for attaching the image for sending.

For sharing a file, i would recommend you to use metrocommander or any other metro-filebrowser and the share-charm, because the desktop is somewhat dived in his functionality from the metro-ui.
Nonetheless, i understand your frustration, because it seems somewhat awkward to have the option on explorer, but no real functionality. Microsoft should at least offer a metro-based file-browser so the potential of their ideas could be unleashed.
