According to sources at The Motley Fool investment firm, Microsoft plans to drop prices on their current lineup of Surface Tablets soon. Exact price targets were not included in this intel, but they will supposedly be much more competitive than current prices. Furthermore, this same intel suggests the Redmond based company intends to offer a 7 or 8-inch sized Windows 8-based tablet at the $200 dollar price range. Both of these strategy shifts are likely to happen sometime this year.

For the most part, this info cannot be independently confirmed at this time, which is why we are calling it a rumor for now. However, this move makes sense for Microsoft because sales of the Surface (both variants) have been lackluster so far. Microsoft needs to change up their business model if they want to stay relevant in the new mobile-focused technology age.

It does not say anything about MS dropping the price of their current line-up...only that newer editions of smaller sized may be around $200. Odd site though! Among other things, it is also meant to entertain! I mean for investors - particularly investors in Apple stocks under current conditions - entertainment may not really be something that is palatable!

Actually, the video hints that all Surface tablet pricing will come down even though they are specifically talking about the possible new smaller tablet. Also, Motley Fool is a stock market investment news company that has been around for quite a long time. They are really no different than Kramer's MadMoney on TV. They all use the "entertainment" disclaimer as a way to protect themselves from lawsuits, but that doesn't mean their information isn't valuable. At the same time, since we couldn't get any third party confirmation (nor direct confirmation from Microsoft) that is why we labeled this story as "rumor." That doesn't mean it might not be true however, so we thought it was worth sharing. :)

Worth sharing but nothing really exciting here. Yes if they come out with a smaller 7" Surface device it will cost less than the Surfaces out now. $200? Who knows I guess we will see. As far as the Surface dropping in price, well duh. It doesn't take a genius to see that coming. Hmm, let's make a Surface 2 and sell the current Surface for exactly the same price at the same time... ;) Anyway the rumors will be better when we start seeing some leaks and specs about what will actually be released.

Yeah...well, that last part about "entertainment" etc...was tongue-in-cheek with a cheap under-the-belt shot at Apple! :D

Edit: All by me, that is!
