I have a surface pro 4 with the dock station.
All seems to work correctly except the connection of my external hard drive a Toshiba usb 3.0 and 1 TB.
Connecting to the usb from the surface no problems but when I connect to the docking station a blinking light and a sound warnings me.
I upgraded the firmware following the instructions of the troubleshooter but no diferencies
On my desktop usb 2.0 also with w10 I have no problems.
I will appreciate help to solve this problem

You may have a poor connection between the Surface Pro 4 and the the docking station. Check the blade connector for any dirt or debris.

Borrow a different external drive and try it. Does it fail also?

I made diferent test based on your sugestion
I connected a WD usb 2.0 to the docking station without problems
I tried the diferent usb 3.0 connections os the docking station with no positive results
I connected the drive to a Asus router with a usb 3.0 connections and had no problems
I cleaned the the blade connector but didn t found any anormal. my pc is brand new ... 3 month
Is there any relation to the usb 3.0 version maybe

I think you may have a bad docking station. Try to borrow someone else's USB 3.0 external drive for a momentary test.
