Microsoft is doing a brave and brilliant thing if the new rumors turn out to be true. According to solid intel from sources at Forbes, Microsoft plans to jump into the smartwatch market in a big way. Supposedly, Microsoft plans to create the first smartwatch with full cross-platform compatibility with Windows Phone, iOS and Android.

In an obvious move to get us really excited about their smartwatch offering, they aren't stopping there either. On top of support for synching multiple mobile devices, the Microsoft smartwatch will also be sensor rich and "draw on optical engineering expertise from Microsoft’s Xbox Kinect division to continuously measure heart rate through the day…"

In fact, the smart money would bet Microsoft is also planning some form of integration with both Cortana and the Xbox One. It will be interesting to see just how far down the rabbit hole Microsoft can take their smartwatch.

Before signing off, we wanted to let everyone know that we have launched the Microsoft Smartwatch Forums for those of you who may be interested in future Microsoft wearables. Enjoy!!
