Windows 8.1 is not a nightmare! It's the best Windows tablet OS to date only when used as a tablet as it seamlessly operates and switches from tablet to desktop. Windows 10 is a step back in tablet UI and it's just too desktop oriented. It's perfect for any device with a physical keyboard, touchpad and mouse. It is less engaging than 8.1 for tablet use that's for sure

Update to Windows 10 right away. With our limited mental storage space, you might as well learn it than 8.1.
