The initial rollout of the Microsoft Hololens will begin March 30th. Don't make plans to get one though, unless you have deep pockets and plan to develop for the platform. The first release will be the Developer Edition of the HoloLens and it will cos $3,000 USD.

The development kit includes the HoloLens itself, a carrying case, a Bluetooth 4.1 clicker, a wired charger, and an extra nose piece. Here's a breakdown of the internal hardware specs for the HoloLens device:
  • 32-bit Intel architecture with 2GB of RAM
  • 802.11ac Wi-Fi
  • Bluetooth 4.1
  • USB 2.0
  • 64GB internal storage
  • Up to three hours of battery life
Seven new apps, games, and tools will also be included with the HoloLens, just to whet the appetite and inspire the creative juices of would-be developers. Microsoft executive, Alex Kipman, indicated that a wider, consumer release will come "further down the line."
