The devices are available in two unlocked versions -- 64 GB and 128 GB. They will be available later today through Microsoft stores, authorized resellers and designated retailers, including Amazon, Best Buy, Costco, Fry's, Staples, Target and Walmart.

They are also available directly through AT&T, starting today, and T-Mobile, starting July 31. (No word yet on when they'll be available through Verizon, as promised.)

Microsoft began gradually rolling out its Surface 3 tablets with 4G LTE a couple of weeks ago, starting with business customers in France, Germany, Spain and U.K.

The Surface 3 is Microsoft's newest tablet. It has an Atom x7 processor, a 10.8-inch screen and separately priced keyboard and pen. The entry-level modelwithout those accessories starts at $499. The Surface 3 with LTE will cost about $100 more, plus the cost of the wireless plans, Microsoft officials have said.
