How to stop touchscreen turning display on

I have a surface pro 2. My power button is set to turn the display off.

After the display turns off after pressing the power button, if I touch the screen's surface it turns the display on again.

Very annoying if I want to walk around holding the device.

Why does this happen?

How do I prevent the touchscreen from being able to turn the screen back on?

If important, I use the display off function because the device is being used to stream videos. So the device is always on.

just set the power button to "sleep" instead of "turn the display off"

Thanks for the reply.

If I set it to sleep, then the surface can't be accessed for media sharing.

So I need it to stay awake but with the screen off.
