On windows 8.1, there was a desktop tile on the start screen.
After upgrading to Windows 10, it is gone. How do I get form start screen to desktop on windows 10?

There are a few ways to get back to the desktop from anywhere on your PC. You can do any of the following:

  • Open Start and then tap or click the desktop tile on the Start screen.

  • Press Windows logo key

    + D on your keyboard.
  • Swipe in from the right edge of the screen, and then tap Search.
(If you're using a mouse, point to the lower-right corner of the screen, move the mouse pointer up, and then click Search.)
Enter desktop in the search box, and then tap or click Desktop in the results.

Well I guess the answer to that is you toggle Tablet Mode.
It's like on a old Game Console when you wanted to change from one thing to the other, you have to switch cartridges. :) yeah, that clunky.

There is no desktop mode in win 10. Apps and legacy software all run on the desktop environment. To get to your desktop just close there program or minimize it, or better yet click the start button. Win 10 is something I never envisaged MS would ever achieve. The marriage of legacy and modern apps.
