Help with a GPS

I am attempting to use a pharos gps 500 as an external gps with the "GPS direct" driver. I cannot get it to work, and the help files and internet suggestions seem out of date.

I am using a SP 7, Windows 10.

I am wondering if MS has killed this functionality and I am just the last one to figure it out. If there is anyone currently doing this, I would appreciate help getting this to work.
