External Monitor Issue post Anniversary Update

Since taking the Anniversary update last week, I have been unable to connect to my external monitor via the mini display port to HDMI adapter I had been using ever since I purchased my Surface.

I spent time chatting with tech support, but the best he could offer me was that Microsoft no longer supported the HDMI cable I'm using so I should go find a certified one. When I balked at that idea he suggested I wipe my computer, which I pointed out would have no effect on Microsoft's theoretical support of my Belkin HDMI cable.

Has anyone else experienced this issue? Not being able to extend my display is a problem.
