Charge cable spacer - tested working

******Tested works perfect ******

Hey guys,

from the day I purchased my Surface 3 the micro USB port and cable have been sort of a love hate thing. I love the versatility but hate the design and picky charging. One of my big complaints with it is that it doesn't sit flush to the side of the housing and because of how flimsy it is I rarely move the tablet while it's plugged in. So I decided to draw up a small spacer that can be glued to the cable that will take up the space between the plug and the housing to give it some more rigidity.

Sent this off to shapeways to be 3D printed. hopefully in the next week or two ill get one and test it out. but I'm pretty confident that this is going to dramatically improve the fitment of this plug and give me more peace of mind about this cable and port.

Shapeways has a limit to how thin they will 3d print materials so to stay at the minimum on the front side it will not quite meet up to the screen because that gap is too thin (see photo)

I have a few on order for myself and some friends so i will be able to test them

Got two of these in today. It takes a while for shape ways to make the first production run but now it should be quick to get them.

Fits flush to the side of the device and holds the plug from rocking. I feel allot better about this connector now with this added support.

Just used a small dab of Gorilla CA glue to hold it onto the charge cable. Should hold it well enough but to be sure you can rough up the surface of that cable.

Very, very nice!

It's unbelievable. Such design error!
.... or it was designed to allow some plug play for accidental removal without over stressing the micro USB socket or throwing the computer due to non-disconnect. We'd have to ask the engineer design team and my bet is they wouldn't answer .

Going to order one of these as soon as I move. It says it wouldn't get here until 8/1 and I move on the 30th. Going to wait and order once I am moved as I don't want it to get lost!
