Broken SP3 Stylus Nib

My SP3 stylus "nib" (tip) broke off and I can't get the inch long stem out! Has anyone had a similar problem and found a solution?

MS sent 3 replacement "nibs" at no charge, since it was still under warranty, but I first need to remove all of the old one.

I don't want to mess it up and possibly void the warranty so unless someone knows how to dismantle the stylus, I'll most likely ship it back to MS; hoping that they will offer repair/replacement for free!

I think I would try sticking a very small needle or pin straight into the nib to see if you can then pull it out stuck onto the needle.

No idea how this comes apart, even though the cone shaped part appears to be two separate pieces, metal and plastic. Id think the metal part unscrews but it didn't budge when I tried it by hand. Perhaps a chat with support will reveal the secret.
