Battery ran dry now Surface 3 stuck in a boot loop

Looks like my battery ran dry while my Surface 3 was supposed to be asleep in its sleeve but after charging, I turn it on and get stuck in a boot loop that I can't get out of and for some reason, I can't seem to boot off a USB recovery key...
