I've searched for this issue but all I find is "surface not waking up" which is not my situation.
After some time of not using the device, it goes into sleep mode (this is OK). The problem is that when I press keys on the keyboard of move the mouse, the LCD backlight doesn't always turn on. It's random. I can shine a light to the LCD and see the screen. Also, the computer is on because it makes sounds and responds to keyboard input. The only way to recover it from this state is to long hold the power button to turn off the system, then press the power button again to hard restart the system.
Again, the computer is still running but the backlight doesn't always turn back on. I suspect this is yet another MS power state bug or driver problem caused by Windows Update.
