    Battery Wearing for a year

I had the exact same issue, over nearly the same time period, with nearly the same battery degradation numbers. About 120 cycles and wear down to 7whr in about 14 months of ownership. Microsoft refused to stand behind the product and it was $450 for a refurbished replacement with 90 days of...

Dead battery in SP3. Impossible to get it serviced by Microsoft

I have no doubt my experience would have been different if I could walk into a store. However as stated, not so easy in my location. In any case, Microsoft pitches the Surface line as a business tool. Stores are great for consumers. Businesses need on-site or mail-in service they can count on...

Dead battery in SP3. Impossible to get it serviced by Microsoft

No problem. Again, I really don't have any problem paying for service since I knew I was at risk not having it covered. If I had dropped it for instance, I would be ok paying that replacement fee. But having to pay the same $450 it'd cost me if I was clumsy for a battery that failed 2 months out...

Dead battery in SP3. Impossible to get it serviced by Microsoft

iPad battery service is $99 for all ipads, including the Pro. Apple - Support - Service Answer Center Unfortunately MS would not sell me extended service after I missed the very short initial window of opportunity to purchase it. Apple will sell a warranty any time within the first year. And...

Dead battery in SP3. Impossible to get it serviced by Microsoft

I have no problem wiping my data if I have confidence I can restore it to another device. But I'm not going to just send it off into the black hole of MS service at this point and 'hope' I see something in return. I cannot locate any information about an advanced return in my Microsoft account...

Dead battery in SP3. Impossible to get it serviced by Microsoft

Fine, but Apple's battery service for laptops costs between $129-199 and I have confidence that I will actually get my device back in a timely manner. And with experience with Apple and Lenovo customer service, I know for a fact that they would work with me under such a circumstance. I have no...

Dead battery in SP3. Impossible to get it serviced by Microsoft

They want me to pay $450 for a replacement device. Right. This does it for me and Microsoft hardware. Lenovo, Apple, many others give a 3 year warranty on their batteries. My Surface is 3 months out of its warranty period and now they want me to spend 40% of its original cost on a battery...

Dead battery in SP3. Impossible to get it serviced by Microsoft

On chat with them now. Somewhat more helpful, but they want me to completely refresh the device. Restoring from that is a major hassle and in near 20 years of IT work I've never seen a battery failed like this fixed through software.

Dead battery in SP3. Impossible to get it serviced by Microsoft

That may be, but my device was purchased through Microsoft. At this point I have a near $2000 paperweight while I have Thinkpads on my desk that I'm in the process of repurposing that are nearing 10 years old. I am literally at a loss as to how to proceed. I've been on the phone twice with...

Dead battery in SP3. Impossible to get it serviced by Microsoft

Last week the battery in my SP3 failed. 7whr indicated capacity left. Lasts for about 20 minutes on battery. I called the Microsoft Business support numbers at Global Customer Service phone numbers which resulted in a string of promises about phone calls back from technical engineers that I...

SP4 Touchscreen stops responding & Pen

Just recently I've begun having an issue on my SP3 where the right side of the screen (when held in portrait orientation, Windows button on bottom) gets less sensitive to touch or stops responding entirely. A reboot fixes it.

From Apple to Surface Pro need your help

Since the November Windows 10 update, trackpad scrolling and tracking is very good - on par with a Macbook. However, the Surface Pro still lacks other basic gesture support - no back/forward on web pages for example. Pinch to zoom is still nowhere near as good as on a Mac either. I can't...

SP4 Type Cover arrived - does not work with SP3 Docking Station

Oh, I see what you are asking. Yes, you can still dock it with the cover closed.

SP4 Type Cover arrived - does not work with SP3 Docking Station

It fits, but the keyboard must lay flat. It cannot snap up into the sloped position.

Anyone here prefer the SP3 type cover over the SP4 cover?

You are totally out of touch. Go try the keyboards available for the iPad or Android tablets. Most of them cost between $75-150, and the keys are nowhere near as good as the new type cover and they don't have a trackpad at all, never mind a better than average one that would cost at least $50...

Anyone here prefer the SP3 type cover over the SP4 cover?

Go buy a $50 keyboard. They are garbage. Even when they are mass-produced, desktop sized ones which are the cheapest keyboards you can buy. For $50 you generally get a rubber dome keyboard with no backlighting. The Type Cover 4 is expensive because it has excellent keys with excellent...

SP4 Pen on SP3. Anyone try it out?

In all seriousness, the flat side makes it much easier to locate the button. And the price isn't even remotely out of line with what every other decent stylus costs.

Is it worth buying the new SP4 type cover to use on my SP3?

It's better, but still flexes. The new keys seem to have better cushion though, so I find it much more acceptable to use when the keyboard is flat now.

Is it worth buying the new SP4 type cover to use on my SP3?

The fingerprint reader, however, appears to be Win 10 only at the moment, which is weird, because 8.1 supports fingerprint login natively just fine.
