    Dell Venue 8-inch Tablet

Oh, and the Venue arrived Thursday. OOB experience was the usual windows device suck (about an hour of updating and tweaking and patching... really dell? that's like fresh from the factory suckage) but blessedly little/no crapware installed. The hardware is beautiful, performance is great...

    Dell Venue 8-inch Tablet

Things that are not yet (nor likely ever to be in) the store: Volcano Flow viewer (if you have one of these, this x86 app is required to actually use the device) VLC to view ISO rips of my DVDs (otherwise, you have to do an MP4 encode to view...) XBMC anyone? Yep. Firefox or Chrome browsers How...

Mail App in 8.1 Almost Unusable for Original RT

You are not seeing normal mail behaviour. Delete all email accounts, and then re-add them. If that doesn't work, uninstall the mail app (which also takes out people and calendar, so be warned) and then re-install it from the store. Pain in the butt, but clearly something didn't get migrated...

    Surface 2 ....THE ICEMAN COMETH

Surface 2... that's the RT surface. You're not running Chrome on that. You're talking about the Surface Pro 2 if you're running x86 apps. If you had this many problems OOB with a Pro 2, you had a *very* defective unit. As to the kickstand leaving grooves in your bare legs... well, I expect the...

    Real story from Nitin Patel

There is no difference in usable battery - iPad wins for standby, but if the device is on/used all day, either will need to be recharged every night. An RT tablet could easily be used for a workday on a single charge.

    Errors listed in Event Viewer

That's an Event Log. Most of what's in there are Events. Not Errors. Windows logs a lot of stuff, most of it is normal. If you're having some actual issue, then the event log might help troubleshoot what it is. Otherwise it's fine. You should see the logs on a normally functioning Linux box :)

    No Media Player on RT

Besides Video (which must not have been pinned to start on your best buy device) I'm finding Media Monkey to be quite good, while waiting for the VLC port to Metro.
