    Battery Drain after Shutdown

I have the same issue with my Surface Pro 4. I haven't taken the time to do the math, but it is probably > 10% a day. I'm an IT professional, so trust me, I know how to fully shut it down. :) This is already my third Surface Pro 4 - the last two were replaced at no charge due to battery...

Using a Webcam on an external monitor

I assume this will work, but want a confirmation before I spend money on a webcam. I have my Surface 4 Pro connected to a (non-smart) 32 inch TV via a DVI to mini display port cord. To save battery life, I only output the screen to the TV. If I buy a Webcam and have it near or clipped to...

    Camera app won't take videos

No - The built in camera. Anyway, it works now. Not sure if it was related, but on a subsequent try, I had to enable the Microphone and then the camera worked.

    Annoyance while switching users

I can't switch users while looking at the unit, as the camera recognizes me and re-logs me in. I don't want to have to look at the unit from the side and wait for the camera not to recognize me, every time I want to switch. There has to be a less annoying way to accomplish this.

    Camera app won't take videos

This is my first attempt in using the camera app. It takes pictures, but when I try and record a video, it replies: Something went wrong Sorry, we weren't able to save the video. If you need it, here's the error code: OxAOOF45D<VideoCaptureStartFailed> (OXOOD36D5) I have the most current...

Solved Need help with USB Power settings

I made the change and my problem is solved. I see that the registry setting added more options to the "advanced" power options for my plan (I ended up changing battery power to maximum performance) but to fix the issue, I didn't have to change anything after modifying the registry as now the...

Solved Need help with USB Power settings

Where do I find this setting? In advanced power settings for my plan, I have sleep and hibernate both set to "never" for both battery and plugged in. Thanks

Solved Need help with USB Power settings

This is bigger than I initially thought. It has nothing to do USB - everything shuts off when the screen shuts off. I was just listening to a sound clip with VLC and as soon as the screen shut off, it stopped playing. I'm off to the Microsoft Store tomorrow to see what they have to say.

Solved Need help with USB Power settings

It works, but there are two issues: 1 - If the Surface is on battery power, this will greatly drain the battery. Yes - I can greatly dim the screen, but I shouldn't have to. 2 - I haven't tested other USB stuff, but this probably indicates that other USB port activity will stop working when...

Solved Need help with USB Power settings

I have a USB sound card: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00IRVQ0F8 Windows shuts it off as soon as the power settings tell the display to shut off. That is a problem when I am recording something with audacity and the source is connected to the USB sound card. I took these steps with...

Can I charge my Surface 4 Pro with this method

I've seen many internet discussions (some here) where the consensus is that it impossible to charge a Surface via USB. Nothing is wrong with my Surface's charger, , but I have an external USB charger (https://www.amazon.com/mophie-powerstation-External-Universal-Smartphones/dp/B01JCIJJE8/) that...

How to get the advertised 9 hours of video playback

Maybe a Microsoft tech turned the brightness down to 5% and watched the movie with night vision goggles. :) :) My life is so boring that I am going to try sliding the brightness WAY down to almost dark, play a movie for 90 minutes and report the battery drainage here. I think I may be on to...

How to get the advertised 9 hours of video playback

It is unlikely that I will ever be on a plane, bus, or train ride that will be 9 hours, BUT, this past summer, I was on a 3 hour train ride and was looking forward to watching a movie that was a little less than 2 hours in length, but the battery died after one hour and 22 minutes! It is clear...

How to get the advertised 9 hours of video playback

The battery was defective: I took the unit into the flagship Microsoft Store where I had purchased it and asked a technician to perform a battery test. In the 2-3 minutes that he took to find the files on his flash drive to perform the diagnostics, the battery had gone down 4%! He offered me...

How to get the advertised 9 hours of video playback

Since the movies are all first coming form iTunes and are all converted to Mp4 using the same program, I was assuming that they would end up the same CODEC, unless ITunes rents movies with different CODECS. To test the randomness, I can play the same movies again while the Surface is in the...

How to get the advertised 9 hours of video playback

The videos were all encoded the same way. I used a DRM Unapproved link removed. to make MP4 copies of some Apple rented MV4 movies. I hope I am not violating any TOS by linking to the product (That I am not affiliated with) AND I am not a pirate - I delete the movies once I watch them. I need...

How to get the advertised 9 hours of video playback

I was able to get one good result from the "Movies and TV," UWP media player, but also had an awful result, so it appears that some processes are intermittently taking up a lot of battery life. These have been my results with 90 minutes of video since my last post: 1 - "Movies and TV" UWP...

How to get the advertised 9 hours of video playback

Thanks for the info regarding the forum. Regarding the built in media player, are you referring to the "Movies and TV" trusted Windows Store app that is one of the options to play a video with? I'll try that if this is what you are recommending and see if it improves battery life. I like...

How to get the advertised 9 hours of video playback

The following tests were conducted with my three-week old Surface Pro 4, with an I7 chip, 256 GIG of storage space and 8 GIGS of RAM. The Surface had gone through fewer than ten battery cycles at the time. The unit had all the latest updates and I was running the latest version of iTunes, VLC...
