I agree with that. One other question.. After your restore completed, did the SB boot directly? Or did you have to set bootrec MBR and such. I restored but getting a 0xc00000e blue screen (boot inaccessible), which I'm planning to fix with the repair wizard.

Just as a follow-up, bought the j5 USB Ethernet adapter as you recommended. It worked like a champ, didn't even have to tell it where to find drivers as they were in the core drivers list. Thanks for your help!

To be safe, I enabled hibernation mode and manually put it in hibernate before I take it anywhere. Yes, it takes a few more seconds to boot, but better that than find a hot plate and dead battery when you need it.

Do you have anything connected to the network port on the dock? If so, it will try to use the network port as a primary, and wireless as secondary. When docked, check the 'Network and Sharing Center', under your 'active networks', see if both wired and wireless shows.

That sounds plausible, but why doesn't the SP3 give an error when I connect it to the same surface dock? Maybe the surface book is more sensitive? Actually, from my experience with the surface book, I'd say it's very sensitive, and not in a completely good way.
