Solved Internal mic levels automatically turning off in 8.1

Just in case anyone ever reads this, I uninstalled the audio driver in Device Manager. I think I am now running the generic Windows audio driver. It seems that the problem is resolved. After I uninstalled the Real tech audio driver, I did a scan for changes in Device Manager. Now it seems to...

Solved Internal mic levels automatically turning off in 8.1

Anyone else having this issue? I use Dragon Naturally Speaking or the Google mic button to do a voice search. Everytime I need to go into the recording devices properties and turn up mic levels. Don't know what is lowering the levels to zero. Any ideas?

S3 driver needed for running Windows 8.1 on SP4

So even we cannot access 8.1 drivers for the S3 from MS? That is f'd up.

    Good alternative pen

Please note this is an ntrig pen of course. It works flawlessly but without silly Onenote button.

    Good alternative pen

I have had my issues with the stock pen. Especially having to unscrew the cap to reset the AAAA battery. Also, it's too expensive to buy backups. I found the HTC flyer pen on EBay for $10. I bought 2. It is same thickness and weight of stock pen but shorter. The buttons are better and the tip...

Everyone needs to get the SP4 touch cover

If you want to improve battery life, learn to undervolt and change power profile in the control panel. Huuuge difference. My fan on my i5 almost never turns on.

    Tablet gets hot - SP3

You can cool off the device by undervolting using a free Intel program. Also, there are ways to create your own power profile to avoid turbo.

    Still love the 3s

Get 8.1 if you at all can. I would buy on eBay just to get 8.1 over 10.

    Low battery life

You can edit the registry to get access to the power settings -- including CPU maximum frequency. I would bet that you could set up a power saver power profile that could run the video just fine. When I run on my power saver profile the battery seems to last forever. I can web browse fine...

Set up Surface 3 with windows 10 pro edition

Don't see why it would be a problem. You might lose your partitioned OS if you wanted to use the refresh or reset functions.

Is 8.1 much better for Surface 3 (Atom)?

Professional reviewer reaches the same conclusion I did: One thing really surprised me: Windows 8.1 is a far more natural fit for the Surface's kind of hybrid than Windows 10. The SP4 is Windows 10 only, so I’m basing this judgement from using the SP3 with Windows 8.1, and the SP4 with Win10...

    Undervolting the Surface 3?

After doing some Google research, this might be impossible. Or it is so on the fringe that no one even attempts to do it. The Intel utility that I used to undervolt my Surface Pro 3 would not install on my Surface 3.

    Undervolting the Surface 3?

I found this information from Microsoft itself which indicates that the Atom does throttle down due to heat. This means that undervolting could help performance on intensive tasks, I think. (I'm not very schooled in this, but I don't think undervolting is very dangerous. If things get...

    Undervolting the Surface 3?

If they ever have to throttle due to heat, this could speed them up. It would allow them to run at higher frequencies longer.

    Undervolting the Surface 3?

I just bought a SP 3 from Ebay with a Core i5. The thing would heat up and create noise immediately. Uh oh, I thought. I'm not going to like this device. Then I changed the registry so I could change the CPU max frequency. Also, I researched undervolting and adjusted the voltage to the CPU...

Is 8.1 much better for Surface 3 (Atom)?

I downloaded 8.1 from the Microsoft website I believe. I did not use the automatic downgrade that MS allows for 30 days or whatever after upgrading. Once again, I could not be happier with my device now. As well as very snappy performance, things like adjusting screen brightness is much more...

Is 8.1 much better for Surface 3 (Atom)?

When I went back to 8.1 I did a clean install. Maybe using the auto upgrade or downgrade can create issues. Have you tried manually loading the drivers from MS for the S3?

Is 8.1 much better for Surface 3 (Atom)?

I never said that it's not everyone's personal choice. My point is that I think 8.1 runs faster and more reliably on this device. This is from someone that has spent a lot of time on both OS's. Maybe my S3 is somehow unique and does not run as well on 10 because of some peculiarity with my...

Don't Upgrade to 10, or Downgrade If You Have

See my related thread about "downgrading" to Win 8.1. This device is like a champ on 8.1. On 10, however, it is a real laggard for me. It's buggy and runs slowly. Also, 8.1 is a better interface for tablets. (Maybe this is due in part to the auto upgrade process, but I don't think so.)

Is 8.1 much better for Surface 3 (Atom)?

Wow. The difference with 8.1 is really palpable on this device. EVERYTHING seems to run faster and better. I was relegating the S3 to a toy but now I can actually use it for work again. (I already bought an SP3 on Ebay, but I'm going to keep using this a lot now.) For example, the OS runs...
