Clicking the X has never closed the app completely i.e. it will remove it from the side bar, it still exists in task manager. It worked this way before the last update as well. To make is disappear from task manager you need to drag down and hold until it flips.

Yep. Mine does not come on opening the cover. For those having issues, maybe just disconnect the cover before putting it in your bag. May not be the most elegant solution, but beats a drained battery or non-responsiveness.

I wouldn't worry about it? What was the battery at? Worst case scenario it was on long enough to drain the batter down to nothing (which wasn't the case if you could power it up), which is bout 9 hours at the most. A day's use. Not a big deal.

Regarding point 1. I'd try remove the usb mouse dongle just to make sure that isn't the issue.
