    New SP3 Kickstand Wiggle

Yes, mine has slightly less friction once rotated past 90 deg towards the full open canvas mode.

    New SP3 Kickstand Wiggle

The Envy is noticeably heavier than the SP3 - it felt 1.5X heavier - didn't check the weight spec though. If I remember right the keyboard is brown I think - kind of reminiscent of the old HP calculator days. I think the aspect ratio and bump in weight may keep eyes focused on the SP3. The...

    New SP3 Kickstand Wiggle

I've had HP laptops in the past and liked their quality then. I really was blown away by this Envy X2 - they i7 8g plus solid build all for $899. The Beats didn't bother me on concept alone, it just made the thing wider than I'm comfortable with. The keyboard looked great too.

    New SP3 Kickstand Wiggle

I'll admit that's one sweet hinge on the HP. The build quality seems quite high - although I'm not a fan of the screen aspect ratio (16:9). The features and value offered are impressive.

    New SP3 Kickstand Wiggle

I just checked at my local Best Buy and all six display units have the same range of play, so it seems possible this could be by design. As a product designer, I know sometimes you can't economically eliminate something undesirable - like a parting line in an assembly. Instead of trying to...

    New SP3 Kickstand Wiggle

I read an article where someone compared the tiny slop as being designed in. At first this didn't make sense but then it started to sound like the issue Nintendo had with their 3DS early-on, where the hinges were breaking. The fix apparently involved adding a tiny bit 'play' in the hinge - its...

    New SP3 Kickstand Wiggle

Hi All- I just bought an SP3 i5/128 from BestBuy last night and immediately started going through MS updates. One thing I noticed right away is that there seems to be some play in the kickstand, and I don't know if this is normal. The first 20 or so degrees has very little to no friction...

Seeking Feedback for My Casual Needs

Well here's a perfect example how my initial low-spec'd ambitions are already creeping upward. While I was planning to use Autodesk Sketchbook Pro 7 on the SP3, last night I downloaded Corel Painter 2015 (Mac) and was blown away. What an incredible program! So I was testing it out on my...

Seeking Feedback for My Casual Needs

I agree the SP3 1.2 screen size and aspect ratio make it perfect for inking. Quite frankly I like the N-Trig experience better than Wacom. I'm curious about how the N-Trig system works. It seems more responsive - wonder if the 8-bit pressure level gets resolved quicker - much less data than...

Seeking Feedback for My Casual Needs

Thank you guys for the additional feedback! The Galaxy Note Pro 12.2 was tempting after a quick test at the store the other day, but I later read on Android forums that a handful of users experienced data loss and difficulty with syncing/backing up. As for the configuration necessary for my...

Thanks for your feedback Frank, and to the others as well! I'll follow up about my configuration and experience if I move ahead.

Seeking Feedback for My Casual Needs

Thanks for the feedback. I won't be comparing them on any other point other than for my use for drawing and note-taking. I'm pretty familiar with Windows from past programming experience and now with running SolidWorks and some developer stuff in Parallels. I've switched from '100% Windows'...

Seeking Feedback for My Casual Needs

I suppose I didn't really get to the point did I - o_O sorry! Given other's experience with the drawing and note taking aspects of the SP3, has that experience been positive enough that one could recommend the SP3 for primarily that subset of features alone? If reliability, accuracy, and...

Seeking Feedback for My Casual Needs

I really like these forums and read them more than I should, as I don't own a Surface - although my daughter has an RT and won't part with it for more than a few minutes. Just a few sentences to set the context: As an iOS developer I can't part with my Macbook Pro Retina 15". I really enjoy...

is SP3 really "in stores" - can i go check it out?

A quick report from Orchard Park, NY (just outside Buffalo, NY) on 6/6/2014 @ 5:00PM EST: After work I checked with two local BB and neither had them on display. I stopped by the local MS retail store and they had two on display (i5/128GB) along side a dedicated staff member to answer...
