    Fall Update to 1709

Updated in about 30 minutes without a hitch on my SP4 Core i5 256 GB. Seems to be running fine.

One Note 2016 will not open via pen

I've done this and it works but that's not something that I want to do every time the button stops working temporarily.... Terrysk, does your issue happen every time you remove the keyboard, even after a fresh boot?

One Note 2016 will not open via pen

I also have a similar problem but, for me, the eraser button doesn't work at all, and it seems that it might be tied to sleep mode. If it's a fresh boot, the eraser button works. If it's been in sleep, the eraser button generally doesn't work.

SP4 2 hour battery life, 16,000mW draw.... only running edge nothing else

So did you actually clock it at 2 hours or are you just going on the estimate? If you are just using the estimate, I don't have any experience with that particular battery app that you're using but I can tell you that the built-in Windows 10 one is garbage that seems to only account for...

    SP4 i7 8ram 256hdd - thermometer icon screen

When it's hitting these high temperatures, do you notice the fan running? Can you feel the hot air being pushed out of the vents?

    No chance for Gaming

So, name a tablet that can run full versions of Adobe Creative Cloud, Microsoft Office, 3D modeling software, do video editing and rendering, has a stylus for notes and art, and has at least a Core i-series CPU that doesn't cost close to $850 USD (the lowest priced SP4 Core i5).

    No chance for Gaming

The key thing that you MUST do when playing any game on the SP4 is to lower the resolution from what is basically twice as demanding as 1080p (2736x1824) and go to 1080p (1920x1080) or 720p (1280x720). When you do that, games like LoL should be quite playable. Personally, I've played Diablo 3...

    Pen Battery Finally Ran Out

While looking for replacement batteries, I was a bit shocked to find that this might be the case. Off of the top of my head, I can't think of any other device that uses AAAA batteries, but some mainstream stores in Canada actually carry them, such as Staples and Canada Computers.

    Pen Battery Finally Ran Out

Just wanted to chime in to say that my SP4 pen mysteriously stopped working while taking some notes during a meeting on Monday. I went without my pen for 2 more days while waiting for some AAAA batteries to arrive from Amazon (got 8 for $5.40 CAD) and just changed the battery now. Pen is working...

Idea on battery life I should get?

The time left estimate is basically completely useless. It takes whatever the most recently polled battery usage is (maybe once every 5-10'ish minutes) and assumes that this short sample is the usage for the entire time, thus will only be accurate if you maintain that amount of system usage.

Idea on battery life I should get?

Probably some background process doing its thing. Take a look at Task Manager if you're really concerned.

Idea on battery life I should get?

With that 10% drop from 100% in 1 hour, you will probably get closer to 7-8 hours which is what I generally get when I use it so much as to drain the entire battery. The first 10% is relatively slow while the final ~25% drains significantly faster than the rest.

    Considering a SP4

I've found LR to be slower than I'd like on my Core i5/8 GB/256 GB, especially if you start adding a lot of regional edit. It works and is still fast enough to not be too annoying, but I try to do all of my photo editing on my desktop if I can avoid using my SP4.

    Lagging Surface Pro 4

I agree with hughlle. If your fan is on all of the time, this generally means that something is constantly pushing your CPU. It sounds like you have a renegade program running amok on your system. Clearing that should fix your problem but doing a system refresh should also do the trick.

    FB video call

You might want to give the Facebook Messenger App a try and see if that works better for video calls.

    Is it only me?

I'll chime in that I also faced frustrations with my unit waking from sleep on its own and burning through the battery (possibly getting pretty hot in my bag) and issues with touch or keyboard not responding on wake requiring restarts but, as of maybe late last year, I'd say that almost all of...

Dell U3014 monitor not working on SP4

Did you manually install the monitor's drivers? Try that if you haven't. Support for Dell U3014 | Dell Canada Also, try restarting while the monitors are plugged in. I find that the first time you connect a display can be buggy some times.

Keep plugged in or run on Battery?

The battery in the SP4 is based on the same technology as other lithium ion batteries which means that there is no memory effect from charging before it is fully discharged, so feel free to plug it in whenever you can. As jnjroach mentioned right from the start, discharge the battery once a...

    Charging SP4 on an airplane

All of my economy flights from Canada to Asia and back have had AC outlets. Watched a lot of movies interpolated to 60 fps while rendered with madVR for better picture quality during the grueling 13'ish hours to and from Asia.

    Battery life

If you put nothing else on it, it would still drain fast for the first half hour or so as Windows indexes all of its files and does updates. To test the battery, you need to let the OS settle down first... unless you mean that you also did all of the updates and used it for a day or two and...
