Why would it work most of the time though and only go out when the system get's locked?

Just checked I formatted it as NTFS when I first put it in the system, so unfortunately that doesn't work for me.

So every time my surface comes back from hibernation or even from a windows lock my SD card is no longer recognized. If I remove it and re-insert the card it is fine and everything is back. It's just really frustrating to remove and re-insert each time I unlock my system. Woe is me with my...
