    Quite bad USB3 speed on SP2 512GB

May not be applicable to your large backup files- and that you need Android compatibility, but I have had issues with speed when using exFat formatted SD cards under specific conditions. I have a few vehicle workshop manuals that contain a significant number of very small files. For my needs I...

What kind of speed copying to microSD card are you getting?

May not be applicable to a large video file, but I have had issues with speed when using exFat formatted SD cards under specific conditions. I have a few vehicle workshop manuals that contain a significant number of very small files. For my needs I simply formatted the SD card NTFS and...

Windows 8.1 - Things you have noticed...

Ok... I've kept Office 2003 (partly because I like the three licenses included in the Home/Student version, but mostly because the 99.00 version of Office 2013 does not include Outlook). Once upgraded to Win 8.1, Outlook (when using Word as an editor) no longer allows one to select an auto...

    2 maybe 3 years time

This is the primary reason I purchased the total care (or what ever the 2 year warranty is called). My SP will 'break' just prior to the two year end date...

Optimizing Battery Health for Surface Pro (2)

Personally, ensuring the lifecycle of the battery was the primary reason I purchased Microsoft's complete care. Shortly before I hit the end of the two year coverage I'll complain the battery is not maintaining a charge and request a replacement... I told the folks whom I purchased the complete...

Windows 8.1 - Things you have noticed...

Well, it is a pretty big issue for me. Don't like to be told how I work, and I've always been a proponent of the policy of only using potentially risky services when needed (not leaving the service always running...). Because of how 8.1 behaves with the SkyDrive app I haven't upgraded my desktop...

Windows 8.1 - Things you have noticed...

After upgrading to ver 8.1 my metro SkyDrive app will only allow access to SkyDrive if I'm logged on to my computer using a Microsoft Account (rather than a local account).

    Win 8.1: Skydrive

When I access SkyDrive using the Metro app under the new 8.1 I get a message indicating "To view your SkyDrive, you need to sign in to this PC with a Microsoft account." The old SkyDrive app (under ver 8) would allow me to use a local account, and the app would allow me to sign in to SkyDrive...

    Screw you Microsoft

Well, after I contributed to this thread I upgraded to 8.1, I didn't see any way to complete the install without using my online credentials (I see further in the thread it's possible). Took me an hour to figure out how to convert the online credentials to local... Not quite as upset as the OP...

    Screw you Microsoft

I, actually, feel your pain. I don't like having to have an apple ID, google ID. I've had the MS ID for over 10 years, retired now but back in the day it was useful for research. Back then our corporate policy required password changes monthly; as I had accounts on a significant number of...

buying the pro, should i get extended warranty?

Just my opinion, but I purchased the 2 year extended coverage- which does cover up to two replacements (at least in the US), even for accidental damage. In two years, less a couple of months, I'm going to complain that the battery isn't lasting as long as it should- I explained this to the MS...
