easier to install to install the latest build from fresh. normal updates are usually ok though.

Don't think its purely a win 10 problem, switched back to 8 for a bit and since the recent update its all running with high ram usage, and cpu usage is up and down like a active up and down thing, that's with minimal process running.

what options do you get if you, go to charms bar - Change PC settings - update and recovery-recovery - Advanced start up- restart now. Do you get a dual boot option or not if not it suggests that your MBR might be corrupt.

hope you get it sorted ScottyS. up/down arrow is all about timing can take a few attempts. You can do a restart by going to update and recovery choosing advanced then choose an OS to start.

I know its not win 8.1 but try he win 10 tech preview it works fine and installs fine from a usb(I dual boot it on my surface). I can check to see if I have a ways or means to get a recovery file, but cant do any thing for a few days.

Use Google chrome then YouTube that normally does it, failing that a number of graphically heavy websites (battlelog for me) seems to do the trick again in chrome.

Since my last post i have discovered that if i click the down button and then enter i get 8.1 or if i hit just enter i get 10 so its as if the graphics for that screen have gone but the functionality is still there.

New issue that has cropped up for me, I recently updated to build 9879 I had not noticed any problems until I restarted my surface to boot into win 8.1 this morning, the screen went black then the back lit blank screen appeared but no dual boot option, eventually it started at the win10 log in...

Does it get hot(when I say hot enough to be unbearable) in the top right area if so then maybe point 4 might be valid, point 3 at a push as it needs to be taken apart to fix and as its a sealed system it means breaking it to do so.

But it is fully portable as it has a battery so its a huge tablet.
