CPU seemingly stuck at 2.49 GHz since Jan. updates

That's right, although 'boot from VHD' is not dependent in any way on Hyper-V (VHD is just a virtual disk format). When running an OS from a VHD image within Hyper-V, it's the virtual environment (Host OS & Drivers) that virtualise the VHD layout and presents a standard disk layout to the guest...

CPU seemingly stuck at 2.49 GHz since Jan. updates

You should be able to using VHD boot for other Windows 7/8 installations (although not XP, or from encrypted volumes) - you can find plenty of guides around on how to do this. As for other OSes, I tried once but gave up early when realising that Ubuntu has no native kernel/loader support...

CPU seemingly stuck at 2.49 GHz since Jan. updates

No, don't think so. See some of my other posts around this. The surface/laptop has no peripherals that would be able to take advantage of this as they're all shared by the host OS so aren't available for exclusive direct guest access.

Is the PTV3000 supposed to work now?

I bought one yesterday, and can confirm that it works. The first thing I did was upgrade the PTV firmware, and also performed a hard reset while messing around with it to be on the safe side. It does have some issues with discovery, usually solved by disabling then re-enabling WiFi on the SP2. I...

Netgear P2TV3000 only running at 720p

When I connect to my PTV3000, I'm only able to get 720p output - I have installed the latest drivers from Netgear, and reset numerous times (also restored my SP2 only a few days ago). I've heard several people on this forum say they've had success with this (I assume at 1080p, otherwise metro...

If you don't have problems, DO NOT INSTALL the Jan. 18 Firmware

Yes, this is what I was trying to get across in post #19, glad somebody gets it :-)

Surface Pro 2 1.9 CPU Lot Numbers

You've convinced me, now thinking about returning my 4200 SP2 because of the slowness of my system animations in desktop and modern UI. How much smoother is it on the 4300, mine's kinda smooth but in the back of my mind I've just never been satisfied and just know it could be so much smoother...

    Mahjongg Freezes

Methinks you and many others are confusing the 'Surface Pro 2' hardware with the 'Windows 8' OS and maybe other devices such as the 'iPad' (or numerous other tabletty consumption devices out there) If you want something that works 100%, perfect experience, no problems ever then return your...

How to completely kill UI apps

Are you talking physical RAM, working set, non-paged memory? As highlighted earlier, there's much more to memory management than meets the eye. I sometimes wish that the surface didn't expose these details, because average Joe usually has no idea what the metrics mean and would be better off...

    Mahjongg Freezes

This really is going too far, and in my view is an abuse of the replacement process over and above some of the other stories I've read in this forum. Sometimes applications hang, fact of life - I have many apps from the app store that do the same. If this was a desktop PC you'd bought from a...

How to completely kill UI apps

Not strictly true - windows memory management is a complex and clever beast and you should really trust it to do the right thing. Memory allocated to suspended metro apps is reclaimed quite aggressively, and the first to be paged out to backing store if RAM is needed, or ultimately killed if...

If you don't have problems, DO NOT INSTALL the Jan. 18 Firmware

That's essentially right, and is the same for all hardware running Windows (either tablet, desktop or laptop). Sleep basically retains power to RAM to maintain system state and puts everything else off or into low power mode, which is why there's always some drain when sleeping. Hibernate...

    hooray - a new Fimware!

The Microsoft statement on this says they only fixed the sleep hibernate issue, not the battery meter problem. This is meant to come in a later release.

If you don't have problems, DO NOT INSTALL the Jan. 18 Firmware

Probably. At the time when the update agent checks what installation packages are relevant, the only information it has to go in is the UEFI driver version (not the actual EUFI firmware version). Especially if people have refreshed their devices, the driver in device manager doesn't reflect...

Do ALL SP2s suffer from hi CPU utilization when idle due to faulty audio drivers?

I'm sure you're right. I've now reproduced this, and nether sysinternals/procmon or the windows task manager/resource monitor show any file activity so we can probably discount any application/virus scanner/indexer being the fault here. All it shows is an interrupt handler (ISR) and the...
