Windows 10 Preview on Surface Pro 3

I was just poking around in Device Manager and noticed a few new HW sensor types and driver updates (TPM V2.0 driver version is now 10.0.10041.0). Looks like the underpinnings for Windows Hello are in there, although the driver date for the TPM driver is suspect.

Windows 10 Preview on Surface Pro 3

@B'midbar I'm getting inconsistent results with that. Sometimes I can slide up and sometimes I get the prompt to use the Windows/Power button or Ctrl+ALT+Del. I haven't figured out the difference although I will say that if the system locks itself due to inactivity it seems to require the unlock...

Windows 10 Preview on Surface Pro 3

I had some weirdness after doing the powershell fix and installing calendar/mail/people. It got stuck in a loop of "Setting things up/installing your apps" then back to "Hi" and eventually would complain of a bad or missing handle. A hard shutdown and reboot seems to have fixed it.

W10 is still young. "Do ya wanna switch to Tablet Mode? Huh. Do ya? Huh? Huh? Do ya? How about now? What about now?"

Windows 10 Preview on Surface Pro 3

I doubt that Microsoft will give 10036 to insiders. The latest build for the next release (fbl_impressive) is 10039 and Gabe Aul tweeted yesterday that the blocking bug has been fixed and a build is going testing on the internal rings for release. So it is likely that 10039 will be released to...

    How to change Cortana settings?

The charm bar settings is available on most W10 apps in the "hamburger" menu in the title bar. It is there on the Cortana window.

Windows 10 Preview on Surface Pro 3

I had the PIN issue on an earlier W10 build but it was working on 9879 and is still working on 9926. I'm also not having any fan or video issues. I haven't monkeyed with the video drives, and have done straight upgrades from W8.1 on my (new then) SP3 until now. I don't remember what I did to fix...

Windows 10 Preview on Surface Pro 3

Thanks Jeff, that did the trick for me although I only had 3 of the 4 updates re-install (and then the December update as a 4th).

It says it fixes the Explorer crashes that have been occurring. I have definitely seen them, so I'm applying it now and we'll see how it goes.

Build 9888 On The Way - Shows "Windows 10" in version

The latest "release" build was 10.0.9891.0.fbl_release.141118-1702 so I'm betting that whatever gets released in January will be later than 9888. You can track the builds at http://www.buildfeed.net

Windows 10 Preview on Surface Pro 3

The purple button works fine for me (except it will only open the MUI version of OneNote). The pen writes OK. The erase and select buttons do not work correctly in OneNote. The erase button changes the cursor to the erasure, but does not erase. The select button changes the icon, but erases any...

    Some Windows 10 keyboard shortcuts

Doesn't work for me either, and dragging a window usually has the older Windows 8.1 behavior (left or right half only, no quadrants).

    Improving SSD performance

@leeshor: Agreed. Drive firmware should take care of this and the user should never have to "refresh" the data of any type of storage device (with maybe the exception of 100 year tape archives).

    Improving SSD performance

Most flash have a 10-year data retention spec - which means that when the flash is new data that is written will not degrade below the raw bit error spec for 10 years when stored unpowered at 30 or 40 deg C. This time decreases at higher temperature (because the leakage currents are higher) and...

I checked and my intel graphics driver was still at 10.18.10.3496 [3/7/2014]. I updated the driver, by browsing my computer and picking from a list of available drivers it showed that 10.18.10.3907 [8/5/2014] was available. I've upgraded to that. @sharpcolorado what graphics driver version...
