only 4 hours of battery EVEN WHEN I optimize for battery

Just out of curiosity, did you restore from the restore image on the Surface, or did you use a disk. I remember seeing one that had nothing but issues. . . turned out to be a corrupt restore image on the drive. Just a thought.

Gaming on the SB 2 13.5"

Decent video. . . resolution? Graphics options? FPS? Not that I'm surprised either way, it's a non max Q 1050, which is definitely a competent performer for 1080 gameplay.

    Intel slowdown

I looked at both results. I'm not an engineer, so I don't claim to completely understand all the ins and outs of Meltdown, but I understand enough to know they've removed "speculative execution". As such, it seems to me that the CPU should take longer to load/offload to compensate for the work...

    SB2 13.5" coil whine

I'm not convinced any unit lacks coil whine. I think some people are just more sensitive to it. If i put my ear to the back of the tablet portion while it's charging I can hear it plain as day, but the unit is dead silent to me under normal operation. So I guess the question is, am I just not...

    SB2 Windows 10 issues

So I'm a little late to the party here [as usual], but for posterity I'm going to jot a few things down for anyone else that may come along confused. 1: Programs you install are not the only ones that use disk space. A good example of this is Windows System Restore. It makes incremental...

    Nvidia drivers

You should, now and always if possible, download the latest drivers from the hardware OEM [Nvidia in this case] The only reason NOT to is in cases like the original Surface Book, when you literally have no other choice.

CPU Throttling on 15 inch Surface Book 2 after 1709?

Yea, the CPU is a little weird. I can't prove this, but I SUSPECT the 1.3+ v temps were from single core turbo clock. Mine doesn't pull that much voltage during XTU either [around 1.25 +/-]. I only ever see 1.3+ during single core gaming [HoTS mostly]. I meant to go more into depth earlier...

    The unit is abnormally hot

Better yet, download HWMONITOR or core temp and take a look at your temps. You can also check task manager to see what's running in the background.

    Nvidia drivers

Yea, it's not an OEM butchered GPU like last gen, you can download drivers straight from Nvidia and install. Best decision MS ever made regarding the GPU :)

    USB-C charging?

For the record, I just plugged my 45w Apple USB C charger into the SB2 15" and it DOES show as charging, so the 87 should be fine. The first cable I plugged in was a TB 3 cable, and I didn't have any issues at all, but it's pretty short. The second cable I plugged in was an Aukey Type-C, and...

HowTo Partial fix for gaming Battery drain

So by now most everyone is aware that setting the SB 2 to "Max Performance" can cause battery drain under certain loads, with a particular focus on gaming. Today I had a thought, and after implementing it I'd like to share it. So the whole thought revolved around lower power options "tuning...

    Must-have SB2 acessories?

Micro does, but you can get a full sized SD 512 GB if you really need the extra storage and don't mind it sticking out a little... https://www.amazon.com/SanDisk-Extreme-SDXC-UHS-I-SDSDXPA-512G-G46/dp/B00NP699ZI/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1512426141&sr=8-1&keywords=SD+card+512+gig

External monitor with keyboard closed--keeps turning SP screen back on

I had a similar problem WITH the dock on several monitors: I had to take the keyboard cover off and leave the SP face up to keep it from reverting, otherwise it'd shut OFF the monitor and default to SP screen only, even with the external monitor set as primary.

CPU Throttling on 15 inch Surface Book 2 after 1709?

I saw that video. I'm gonna leave this here as well: But yes, it was I who also left it on the video 1) If it happens at all, it's contributing to battery wear. 2) If it was a "feature", it should have been clearly advertised and marketed PRIOR TO AVAILABILITY FOR PURCHASE so that early...

CPU Throttling on 15 inch Surface Book 2 after 1709?

Absolutely nothing wrong with the gaming, even when you're not on max performance. I've now added a few more games to my library thanks to a USB-C SSD, and not only does the back only get "medium warm" as opposed to "inferno", there's no noticable issue with performance [I mean, we're talking...

    Must-have SB2 acessories?

Base QI makes a microSD adapter that sits flush with the Surface book. As for displayport cables, YMMV across the pond, but I got a mini-displayport to displayport cable [CableMods] for something like $7.00 US. Just make sure it's certified 4k and you should be good to go. Other than that...

SB2 not updating to 1709 and other problems

I had the same problem on several machines in my household, including the 2017 Surface Pro and 15" surface book (as well as my 1950x desktop, strangely enough] I had to look up how to download the Microsoft upgrade assistant on Google to get the update to push. It was the only way I could get...

    Surface Book/i5/256gb/dGPU Video editing issues

I don't remember if nvidia control panel is installed with the custom video card drivers for the first gen surface book. It *SHOULD* Be. The only thing I can suggest is to go into control panel, double click on nvidia control panel, select "manage 3d settings" from the menu on the left. When...

CPU Throttling on 15 inch Surface Book 2 after 1709?

There is a reason: It's called "Defective by design". I can understand the surface dock not being able to charge it under load at high performance, but if the proprietary charger can't take enough wattage it should have been redesigned. This isn't all about gaming, what about compiling...
