Is there a way to check CPU temperature of SP2?

I use Piriform's Speccy, has all the info at your fingertips about the whole system, 64bit, and temperatures in either degrees F or C.

    Best BackUp Solution?

As long as it's large enough. The full system image on my SP1 is about 37gb, a 500gb or 1tb external drive will hold several, and is a lot cheaper per gb than usb3 flash drives.

    Best BackUp Solution?

The trick is to open your external storage device after your backup completes, and rename the folder. I just add the date like 053114 at the end. This way the new system image won't overwrite your others.

    Rethinking MSFT's Strategy

Ha Ha Ha!!!! The good old days! I learned 6502 assembly language so I could reprogram the sprite collisions on my Commodore 128, so I could get further in games. Ha!

    Power Management Problems & ASPM

I just ran powercfg /energy on my 'new' surface pro 1, just bought a month ago. I had 25 errors, including Platform Power Management Capabilities:PCI Express Active-State Power Management (ASPM) Disabled PCI Express Active-State Power Management (ASPM) has been disabled due to a known...

    Rethinking MSFT's Strategy

I guess I was unlucky (or Lucky?), I couldn't afford a PC, IBM or otherwise. That forced me to use alternates, Timex, Radioshack, a CPM3 laptop, and two Commodores, before I could finally enter the DOS/Windows world. They were fun and educational, but all the BASIC and Assembly Language I did...

    Rethinking MSFT's Strategy

Prime example, (though many too young to remember), IBM's MCA (micro channel architecture). IBM thought it would solidify their position in the PC market, and insure sales of upgrades only from IBM. Instead it almost killed their PC business in less than a year. And assured a solid market for...

    Who Will be Upgrading?

I waited over a year to get a surface pro 1. Not because of cost, but to give Microsoft time to work out the bugs. I have been more than ecstatic with the pro 1. I might look at a pro 3 for the screen size, but only after it's been proven. Too soon to jump on the new tech bandwagon makes for...

    External Hd or Micro sdcard

When I say a ccouple hundred bucks, I mean full retail, that's what most people pay when they shop local. I got the usb 3.0 Toshiba 500gb external for $57 on sale at Best Buy, the 64gb micro sd on ebay for $35, the powered usb 3.0 hub for $15 and my docking station at Best Buy, full price $159...

    External Hd or Micro sdcard

I use a 64gb class 10 micro sd in my surface for downloads, some videos, other files I need access to. I also have a usb 3 external 500gb hard drive that I only use for system images when I do backups. You can't restore a system image from a micro sd plugged into the surface, can't even save a...

Crazy Question: Can you Roll Back to Windows 7?

If you open properties on the desktop taskbar, you will find a tab with the choice to start right into the desktop instead of metro, you can also select to show the 'all apps' view instead of the tiles, when you go to the metro start screen, all the installed software is listed in that view...

Game of War, Candy Crush, and other popular Iphone games - no download for Surface

Just a thought, With a Surface Pro, can't one create a virtual machine, install Android x86, and run the apk's for android apps, if you can find a place to download them? I guess it would be a challenge to get Android x86 to use the hardware, but I would think a simple game would run?

    Bluetooth Mouse options

I got this bluetooth mouse on ebay, once I figured out how to pair it with my Surface Pro (the instructions were wrong), it works perfectly, has scroll wheel, forward and back buttons, and selectable DPI. And it was less than $10!!!!! Ergonomic Bluetooth Wireless Mouse - Black - Mice

    Couple questions about the charger.

For about $159 you can get a surface pro (2) docking station, it has a coaxial power plug, you could probably use any compatible power supply, as long as the voltage and milliamp rating is the same. It's an extra piece to lug around, but the extra usb ports are handy, and it's sturdier than the...

    Boot from USB?

The bootable usb drives also have to be fat32, as well as UEFI compatible. Sometimes you have to turn off secure boot, too. Not all 3rd party imaging software supports GPT partitioned hard drives, even if they present a MBR partition table for backward compatibility.
