If the plugging and unplugging into the DP jack was a direct/indirect factor or cause to your board micro fracture, this would allow for a fixed initial connection to the port. All subsequent connections would then be made to the extended port only, thus, perhaps alleviating/preventing that...
For the faint of heart, you might want to try this as a preventative measure:

I am still not sure of exactly what it does. Will be attentive to any negative effects if any. So far have not noticed any. Consensus is to keep it. We will see.
EDIT:
Checked for the WD folder in Program Files. NOT PRESENT
It seems that it did not install even after I manually restarted.
I received the same optional update. I guess we will have to wait until they provide a working and useful detailed information link. However I installed it anyway.
@GreyFox7 If you look at the PLUG on the power supply and my speculated pin-out it correlates with your description. The separation space in the middle is the reason why they put 6 pin contacts on the plug ( 12 if you count both sides) instead of the 5 on the plug of the SP1 an SP2. They had to...
I inadvertently omitted the most likely reason for the substantial physical space of the DET contacts on the plug. This is were the SP3's jack internal contacts supply the additional functions when mated to the dock station connector. This give rise to a possible future power supply plug...
Actual Pin out Configuration

Speculated Pin out Configuration
G 12V DET__________DET 12V G SP3 plug
Reason for a 6th Contact is the physical separation of the DET pin. Separation was possibly...
Apple Marketing, being the best at identifying , targeting and attracting prospective new customers, might consider advertising this on Internet Porno sites, as a aid to bedtime browsing orgasm.:)
I confess:D
The object is to keep the separating forces confined as much as possible to the magnet mating solid structures , and not leak down to the adjoining flexible junction surfaces.
Of course this is an empirical anecdote:
The keyword is "minimize".
Also I referenced @Nuspieds post which states:
"holding down the Type Cover with my right hand while I pulled away the SP with my left hand."
Using the hand/palm to support the edge junctions will help do this.
Empirically speaking, the preferred procedure is the one indicated by @Nuspieds, which is the one I also employ. Remove the tablet from the keyboard, not the other way around, to minimize tearing and stretching stress.
