I exchanged my i5 for an i7. The i5 fan sounded like white noise when it came, but the i7 fan is much more of a buzzing noise. This was while running Windows update and nothing else, btw. See video for noise:

It's daily syncing of certain files with my work desktop computer. Can't use DropBox or one drive because work doesn't allow them. So some sort of physical connection would be best. I guess I could connect to my work vpn and just upload/download the files, so not the end of the world if...

Can I connect my sp3 to my desktop computer via usb to do file transfers? If no, what do people recommend, assuming lan is not an option and drop box is too slow. A microsd card + reader?

Hmm, I've never actually tried it, but my understanding is that, in that situation, choosing sleep actually puts you in hibernate. As far as I know there is no way to get traditional sleep in SP3, but I could be wrong.

Unfortunately SP3 does not have normal sleep mode. Only connected standby and hibernate. Too bad, because I wanted to do the same thing you proposed. Don't need notifications, so don't need connected standby. That's what my phone is for. Don't need an "always on" laptop....

Do you have to uninstall the old WiFi driver before updating to the new one, the same way you have to uninstall old video driver before updating? Or does WiFi driver allow you to install it over the old one?
