My docking station started doing weird things recently as well. When I would connect something to USB, the whole thing would freak out -- the external monitor would go off, then back on, then off again, eventually coming back on and staying on. At the same time, other devices would disconnect...

For the record, daisy-chaining another 1080p display (MDP to HDMI) doesn't work. But I honestly don't know what I would do with all that real estate on top of this fabulous ultrawide.

Based on this post in another thread, there actually is some hope of having both the 3840x1440 and a 1920x1080 attached and working with the SP3. I'm not considering it a done deal at this point, but there is a little bit of hope after reading that thread.

Ah, good point, I hadn't considered that. But I will have to give it a try. :-) The new monitor is scheduled to be here on Monday.

Hmmm.... thinking this through some more.... as of now, I have two 1080p monitors hooked up via HDMI. I may keep one of them and try to daisy-chain it to the new LG Ultrawide, since apparently you can use one of the two mini displayport (Thunderbolt) ports to extend to another display.

I missed the original deal but now it's back! So I've officially ordered the monitor. I will be sure to report back here after setting it up and running some tests. :-)

Sounds like you are trying to drag apps from the Start screen (Metro). We're talking about dragging windows on the Desktop to the extended screen. The TV is an extension of your Desktop, not Start screen. That said, there might be a way to extend the Start screen, but it's beyond my knowledge...

Yes, it is now additional Desktop space. You can drag windows and such over there.

Despite being on SP3 #3 with #4 on the way, I absolutely LOVE the SP3. It's Microsoft's Support policies that tick me off. You can argue all day long that if I'm getting a replacement, then getting a refurb model is okay -- but I wholeheartedly disagree. I bought a new one, expecting it to work...

Since it is technically an external monitor, you can extend your Desktop to it, thus leaving your SP3's main screen available for other stuff.

So, if I am understanding you correctly, the SP3 won't support any external monitor having higher resolution than its own screen?

Seriously thinking about picking up this bad boy but not sure if the SP3 will even support it. I've Googled until I cried and there seems to be conflicting information out there about supported resolutions. So... Does anyone know if the SP3 can support ultrawide resolution of 3840 x 1440...

If it helps any, here is a screenshot of the latest Chrome stable build and IE, both on Desktop, on a 1080p display and no fancy scaling tricks. The screenshot doesn't really show it very well (maybe because it is reduced), but IE's text is a little more crisp.
