The thing is, if it doesn't fit/serve your need; return it. You gave it a try. I would do the same. Microsoft might have claim SF3 has many capabilities and it might indeed can do it. Will it do it well enough that is a different story?

I went from i5 to i7. I have no regret and I am much happier with i7. Mine runs cool. Battery is good, getting around 7hrs. I do have wifi issue. wifi was not an issue prior to mid Aug update.

I use QOS in my router. This will prevent bandwidth hog. as far as 3mbps goes, make sure you are not suffering from known wifi while on battery issue on SF3.

I am using local cloud storage. AC or better is a must. If you don't do a lot of data transfer within local network or even remote, you don't really need AC. N is more than enough.

i5/8/256 will probably do the job. If you don't care too much about ~$250 diff, i7/8/256 will probably do better. I have the i7 and I am very happy with its performance.
