I have been using my SP3 with 5Ghz since day one. I am using Netgear R7000. Were you able connect any other device to your router on 5Ghz band?

I noticed no different as far as fan goes. fan is normal on my i7. so far so good.

I know you said you had 40%. I think, you simply ran out of juice. I would try with power plug first. Plug the charger in(the end of cable pointing upward) and wait for good 5-10 min, then power it up.

I and many folks from Apple world simply use black electrical tape. You first apply enough on the cable so it will flush with the end of the harness. Then apply second layer of electrical tape that wrap the end piece of the harness together with cable. I have been doing this for years.

I use google DNS, I set it at router so all devices benefit from it. I used openDNS before and found Google DNS is faster at my region.

It should be enough, I have 128GB on my SP1. I also use 64GB microSD. One thing people also needs to do is a better house keeping.
