Intel Graphics Drivers not being updated through firmware updates

Well, if it does any good, I've found that on Device manager you can find a device (under HID devices section) called "Surface Type Cover 2 Firmware Update device", and on mine (fully updated via WU) it is 2.0.262.0 .. According to the update history it should be 1.0.317.0 but I've downloaded...

Has anyone here tried Linux or OS X on their device?

Maybe we can get a new "Alternate operating systems" subforum here? I see there's some interest -- we're already discussing more than one topic on this thread -- and (for the Linux case) most of the problems will have nothing to do with distro-specific things Basically I feel weird posting in...

Has anyone here tried Linux or OS X on their device?

A good alternative I've been using (as a developer I often need host<->VM connectivity) is to have two virtual adapters, one connecting to NAT as previously described, while the other connecting to a "Host only network". Host only network does require some support from the operating system, but...

March FW update failed - doesn't come back

They use it differently -- the SFPro2 sleeps often, while the SF is always on (connected standby). Also, I suspect bandwidth expectations on RT are lower... "Heat gun". I do not plan to try that either until warranty expires, though :)

    Strange Event logs

Just a curiosity I suspect. I was perusing the Windows event log on my new SFPro2 when I realized that there were some events dated on the same week as this device was manufactured (according to the lot no. 1403) . I suppose every SFPro must either have those or similar events (I mean, they are...

Has anyone here tried Linux or OS X on their device?

With VirtualBox you can use "NAT" networking, i.e. the virtual machine does never get raw access to the network interface, and never gets a "network visible" IP. Rather VirtualBox creates a virtual network visible only by VirtualBox itself. It is implemented entirely in usermode so it doesn't...

Processor Differences in Surface Pro 2 Units?

No, that's not true. It does not have any support for faster virtual machines that any software developer could use. You're probably talking about VT-d, but that's intended for passthrough of PCI devices. Which the Surface Pro does not have, so it's entirely useless. It does have a new feature...

Has anyone here tried Linux or OS X on their device?

I suppose that's with everything idle? What happens if you uninstall HyperV, do you get a similar figure on the same idle desktop? Thought I didn't mean to force anyone to make the test :) I have a 256GB unit now so I should be able to measure battery life myself when I find a free time slot...

Just got my Surface Pro 2....it is epic and thanks to the forum for the advice.

I am also enjoying the SFPro2 (same model) very much, and this comes from a GNU/Linux fan I had been trying to decide between the SFPro2 and the Dell Venue 11 Pro ever since they were both released. The Dell Venue 11 Pro had removable battery and WWAN/GPS upgrade possibility. However the...

March FW update failed - doesn't come back

Using the Marvell Avastar for Wi-Fi is a weird option. The Avastar is tablet/smartphone-grade hardware, not laptop-grade, and it is showing (e.g. BT/WLAN coexistence). Virtually the only reason I can figure out for choosing the Avastar is that they wanted to be able to select the same part for...

Has anyone here tried Linux or OS X on their device?

I am running Gentoo on my SFPro2, natively, without any virtual machine. It works reasonably well as a laptop -- better than I expected (a bar which, admittedly, was not very high to begin with). As I mention on my website, battery life is around 4-5 hours. That's doing real work (development...

One thing I would like to see!

Yeah, I do most of my work with GNU/Linux. Also it works mostly great on the SFPro2. The problem with virtual machines is that they're generally bad at power saving. It's not that simple. first, there is reliability -- the Surface may work when your phone does not (it's two devices to take...

One thing I would like to see!

It's definitely not standard USB. Yes, they show up as USB devices, but on GNU/Linux at least you can clearly see it's all under the same "composite USB device" (which houses the wacom, sensors, etc. If the cover is attached, it appears as interface 3 of this device). Also unplugging/plugging...
