    HowTo 123123213123213132131231231231313

I've had my first, and only glitch so far, today when my 10 day old SP4 refused recognize the monitors connected to my dock - took about six restarts and fiddling with trying to first mirror then extend displays before it was back up and running full steam. Had this happen with my SP3 before...

    SP4i7 or cheap laptop & iPad air 3* ?

The first place to start your decision, as always, is to consider your use case carefully. The mythical iPad Air 3, which I imagine will appear in March, will be a poor note taking alternative unless Apple is ready to bring the pen to the Air design, and I would guess that is at least a year...

What does everyone use their surface or 4 - for?

Well, that is a bit of hyperbole - it would only rewarm your pizza. Seriously, if you didn't hibernate it, it would get very hot in your briefcase between office and home.

SB - Hard to take quick handwritten notes in one note with clipboard attached.

Well, unless you are willing to just plug in the clipboard only (where's the kickstand then), it is only logical you leave it attached to its base and connect the dock to it...n'est ce pas?

    Surface Pro 4 Lot Numbers

Not many updates come to think of it, but 1511 was among the It went fairly quickly and can't recall the exact updates (believe 1511 was among them) - whatever happened to teh log you could see of updates that have been applied to your system?

SB - Hard to take quick handwritten notes in one note with clipboard attached.

There is a problem with the flip and take notes approach. Because of my setup (at my desk with two external 27" WQHD monitors), I used my Surface Book (three different systems) to take notes while working. Leaving the clipboard attached over the keyboard led to constant overheating and the fan...

Will SP4 come with a SIM card slot, for GPRS/EDGE/UMTS/LTE?

Not silly - you have the very use case for built-in LTE, but I think that is the exception to the rule, and they are trying to garner the most market possible...

    Surface Pro 4 Lot Numbers

1552 and a sweet machine...(and it is nearly silent - rare fan use and fairly quiet when spinning). If they just fix (dis)connected standby... Note to self - no more buying Surface devices until three months after first release!

Will SP4 come with a SIM card slot, for GPRS/EDGE/UMTS/LTE?

I think this is the real answer. Even if it is "only" $10, when every member of the family has a tablet or other device, those 10's begin to add up, and in my case, since I still have an iPad Air 2 (getting little to no use at this time) it would be $20. I can see if you are hard core 24/7 data...

Can Surface Pro 4 replace an Ultrabook?

For me, I cover the metal with a skin (Skinomi - I know, that's a bit cutesy, but they make good tech skins) and rely on the keyboard cover. When on the go, it sits in my briefcase or a pocket of a folio for more protection. Just never warmed up to slip cases or special covers just for the device.

Can Surface Pro 4 replace an Ultrabook?

Personally, I think it is better than an ultrabook, and can stand toe to toe with the likes of the MacBook Pro 13. 6th generation Skylake; 16gb ram; 512gb ssd; greater than Retina screen resolution; touch screen; pen; 2.4 lbs with keyboard. Only the two Thunderbolt ports trump the the SP4. In...

SB - Hard to take quick handwritten notes in one note with clipboard attached.

I don't know what your use case is, but I easily get better than 5 hours with it (same for my SP3 before it). Maybe a defect?

What does everyone use their surface or 4 - for?

You must have gotten a SP3 by mistake. My new SP4 is cool as a cucumber - the SP3 it replaced could heat and serve your pizza...

Get Surface Pro 4 or wait for Surface Pro 5 or iPad Pro

GOG - If you've got another computer, it is safe to try the iPad Pro; otherwise, you will need a real computer, and only the Surface/Surface Pro options will give you that. I have an iPad Air 2 that has gotten little/no use because of my Surface Pro 3, and now my Surface Pro 4. Even though the...

Need USB Help With Surface Book

Last night was a chaotic mess, so didn't get time to try it out. I'm now struggling with a second generic problem - whenever I detach the clipboard for more than 5-10 minutes, the system crashes when it is re-attached, requiring a hard reset. If I remove and re-attach fairly quickly (as when I...

Need USB Help With Surface Book

Sorry, but how do you safely and easily disable connected standby? That has looked like a complicated command line process and/or regedit.

Without dGPU is the SB the same as SP4? Other differences?

This is my third try with the Surface Book, and except for sleep deprivation (come on Microsoft, if you are going to continue to insist on connected standby FIX IT) - it has been good. As for the sleep issue, I've set mine to hibernate after 15 minutes of sleep, and it has been stable, recovers...
