Article: SP4 & SB Firmware Updates Released 1/22/16?!

I'm glad they released it last year, even with all the problems. Microsoft stated in early December “Yes, The ‘standby’ battery life is an issue we are working on and have been working on. We can put the processor into a deeper sleep state than it is currently set to. We couldn’t do it at RTM...

Article: SP4 & SB Firmware Updates Released 1/22/16?!

As much as I'd like the problems fixed quickly, I'd rather they get it RIGHT, than right away. In the meantime, I'm hibernating instead of sleeping until they come up with a fix. That seem to me to be a better way to go than trying every hack that appears on a discussion board. It's better on...

SP4 on screen keyboard won't appear

If you tap an input field with the Surface Pen, you get the Handwriting Bar. But if you tap an input field with your finger, you get the virtual keyboard.

Article: SP4 & SB Firmware Updates Released 1/22/16?!

That's right. That's why I put the "?!" at the end of the title of this thread. Sorry if you missed it and were confused. I posted a comment at the end of the article I cited asking the author why they haven't retracted the article since there has been no firmware update for the SP4 in the...

Surface Pro and Surface Book Firmware Rolling Out with New Intel Graphics Driver Today, Microsoft is rolling out what is supposed to be a massive fix in a firmware update for its Surface Pro and Surface Book line. Both the Surface Pro 4 and Surface Book have been under serious customer scrutiny...

Well I tried to hang in there with SB and SP4

OK, I'm going to date myself, but here goes. When I was a teen around 1970, my friend's father bought a Jaguar XJ-12.. He was in love with the car even though it was in the shop about half the time and sometimes for over a month. Once it broke down about 6 hours from home and he flew his...

    not normal fan noise (rattling?)

I wouldn't put up with that if I could still return it. Even if it doesn't bother you, it's a sign that something is wrong and will likely only get worse and probably break eventually.

    not normal fan noise (rattling?)

It's hard to tell from that short clip with all the extraneous noises, but I think my fan is much quieter. Also, it's hard to distinguish volume from a sound clip. It depends on your microphone placement, recording level, etc. Didn't you have one or more previous SP4s with a fan? How does it...

Article: Four Ways to Improve SP4 Battery Life

The article says "By setting the maximum CPU frequency, while on battery, to 99% Turbo Boost will not be engaged." But one of the commenters after the end of the article says "I found that with my Surface Pro 4 i5/8GB I had to set the CPU max on battery to 90% to keep turbo off. Took hours of...

Thanks for your explanation. I guess it's just a personal preference thing. Who knows, someday I might find it appealing.

    Onenote V17 v Onenote 2013

I still don't get it. If I want text in my computer, I'll type it. The pen just doesn't seem like the right tool for the job.

    Onenote V17 v Onenote 2013

Just wondering...why do you like OneNote? What do you do with it? I've looked at it a few times and I don't get it. If I want to make handwritten notes, I'll get a piece of paper. I'm not trying to be dismissive. I'm trying to figure out what I'm missing.

Which Surface Pro 4 issues remain?

Why does this problem manifest on some SP4s, but not others? Keep in mind that this problem is reported by many users (including wynand32 above) right out of the box, so no software has been installed yet to cause a conflict.

Which Surface Pro 4 issues remain?

If it's a driver issue, why does this bug affect some users but not others?

Which Surface Pro 4 issues remain?

You probably have a defective unit that needs to be replaced. It sounds like you're closing the lid in PC mode. Do you have the (no wake up) problem when you detach the type cover (go into tablet mode) and then hit the power button?

Which Surface Pro 4 issues remain?

Then you probably want to go with something like 30 minutes of sleep instead of 5 minutes. On my i5/4/128 it takes 10 seconds to come up from hibernation. I don't mind that. It takes me that long to get in a comfortable surfing position. Hopefully the sleep issue will be addressed...
