    Battery Drain whilst shutdown

No, I don't think a reset would impact battery life.

    Battery Drain whilst shutdown

I use my SP4 once a day at the same time each day. Yesterday I turned it off with 81.5% and turned it on 24 hours later and it had 80.1% (a 1.4% drop). However, to duplicate what you've done, I would need to turn it off with 100% and then turn it on 24 to 48 hours later. That's not the way I...

    Battery Drain whilst shutdown

According to this article, the self-discharge rate for lithium ion batteries is "5% in 24h, then 1–2% per month (plus 3% for safety circuit)," which is close to what you've experienced.

    Battery Drain whilst shutdown

Very unlikely. Everything I've read about lithium-ion batteries says that excessive heat can cause charging/discharging problems, not cold. Cold only becomes an issue when below freezing.

    Battery Drain whilst shutdown

Was the type cover attached? I seem to recall someone a while back saying that increases drain. If so, try detaching the type cover before shutdown, leaving it off overnight, and compare the drain.

I've Changed My Mind: The SP4 is Terrible

As soon as I got my SP4 a year ago, I essentially disabled sleep mode. My settings are: 1) Power switch triggers hibernate 2) Close lid triggers hibernate 3) Sleep after 5 minutes of inactivity 4) Hibernate after 1 minute of sleep Best move I could have made. Since my SP4 starts up from...

I've Changed My Mind: The SP4 is Terrible

Did you put it to sleep or did you hibernate it? If you put it to sleep, is it set up to hibernate after a number of minutes? I think 120 minutes is the default.

How Do You Backup Your SP4?

Fortunately, I've never had to reset my SP4, but I understand the procedure as follows. 1) Download SP4 image 2) Install image on SP4 3) Download and install Win 10 updates 4) Download and install apps 5) Customize desktop to your preferences Did I leave anything out? That doesn't seem...

Endgadget: Microsoft passes on updating the Surface Pro

I agree. I'm glad they did not alter or try to improve the Surface Pro 4 at this point in time. I think that would have been a mistake.

Endgadget: Microsoft passes on updating the Surface Pro

Microsoft passes on updating the Surface Pro by Jon Fingas Microsoft announced a flurry of hardware at its Surface event, but there was one very conspicuous omission: a new Surface Pro tablet. For the first time in a long while, a year will come and go without an updated version of Microsoft's...

How Do You Backup Your SP4?

Thanks for all the great feedback. I decided to backup my SP4 to a 128 GB 3.0 USB flash drive ($25) and transfer it to an external HD. I used Paragon Backup & Recovery 14 Free. The process was easier than I thought it would be. The PB&R 14 user interface takes some effort to figure out, but...

How Do You Backup Your SP4?

Since I own/run a small business that's highly dependent upon data, there's no way I could do without backup. It would be suicidal. My SP4 is a different story. There's nothing on it that's critical. It's just a question of how much work it would take to get it back to where it was before...

128k? Do you mean 128 GB? What do you use it for?

It's not the 6 programs. It's the OS.

How Do You Backup Your SP4?

It just occurred to me that I don't backup my SP4. Since I use it only for travel and recreation, any data on it is duplicated elsewhere. But if it crashed, I would have to reconfigure it. Therefore, an image backup might be warranted for me. How do you backup your SP4?

    Battery sudden drain 65%-0%

There's no way to know for sure how a company, or even a particular representative, will respond to a given situation. Nonetheless, your story coupled with your documentation paint a pretty clear picture of what happened. I guess I'd be somewhat surprised if they didn't offer to replace your...

    Battery sudden drain 65%-0%

I would argue for a refund or brand new SP4, but if not successful, would take a refurbished one. I'd rather have a refurbished SP4 than one that has exhibited the behavior you documented.

    Battery sudden drain 65%-0%

It's not possible that your SP4 battery went from 67% to 0% in 15 minutes. Nor is it possible that it went from 0% to 65% in the next 7 minutes. Clearly, for some reason, the CPU lost contact with the battery and the regained contact within a few minutes. What's not clear is whether the cause...
