Anyone else disturbed by the default update torrent setup?

Yeah. My guess is 99% of users don't scour tech blogs. I chatted to about 10 people in our project office today who were running Windows 10. None of them were aware of it and all of them were pretty unimpressed about it. It's a great feature but I just think it was a mistake to switch on by...

    Sad Reality of Apple's Users

No. I'm not calling your a liar AND an idiot, I'm calling you one or the other. The other option is you may not understand what intuitive actually means, which I guess is also a possibility. I could also have used the term exaggerator but I don't want to give you the benefit of the doubt just...

    Sad Reality of Apple's Users

Nope. I'm calling Bull I.e. If a two year old can work out how to use it, I'm pretty sure you can. I'm trying to point out that you've probably drunk the Microsoft cool aid one too many times if you're trying to go down the subjective path for usability on the Surface Pro vs iPad. I'm seen the...

    Sad Reality of Apple's Users

Nope. Ease of use is subjective because you're sitting on a computer forum which clearly puts you in the geek category and out of touch with the average person who is computer illiterate enough to open a file in an email that we would all clearly realise is a virus. My 1 yr old could work out...

    Sad Reality of Apple's Users

And yet, I guarantee if you give an iPad and a Surface Pro to a computer illiterate grand parent or the vast majority of mainstream non-technical users, I know which one they will find easier to use. The point being is from a usability perspective the Surface Pro 3 isn't there. I like mine, but...

Why doesn't Microsoft default to the 4 character Pin

And in doing so, you put users in a position where they are likely to switch off the password altogether which is worse. I'd much rather see people using a 4 character pin than not at all. If it's a requirement for network security to have it enabled, then the IT person in the organisation can...

Why doesn't Microsoft default to the 4 character Pin

There are a couple of things to remember: 1. Most end users will not spend their time on forums and are not necessarily tech savvy so something that is easy for you and I isn't easy for everyone. They expect it to work out of the box. 2. Usability is one of the most important aspects of...

Why doesn't Microsoft default to the 4 character Pin

Yup. But the point was simply that Microsoft selected the most difficult way of logging in out of the box. I think if Microsoft want to improve their user experience, they need to consider these things and at least offer the option when a person sets up their machine as someone suggested.

Why doesn't Microsoft default to the 4 character Pin

One of the strange annoyances I had with the SP3 when I first got it was MS defaulting the login password to a full windows password instead of the 4 character pin. I understand that people may want this for corporations where security is paramount but most network guys would know how to set...

Went to Microsoft Store today to possibly purchase -then went to Apple Store.

Thanks. I agree on the type cover but I think it depends on what type of business you're in. Writing is only a part time for me, the balance of the time I do consulting which involves large documents so the type cover was never going to be suitable for full time use, but I am glad I have it...

Went to Microsoft Store today to possibly purchase -then went to Apple Store.

I also wouldn't be surprised either. The SP3 has turned into a $1.1 billion industry so I think Apple would be stupid not to. I think the challenge with these devices is no longer the validity, it's how to best put them together so the user experience is fluid. You want it to be a tablet when...

Sorry, I misread your comment. I thought you were saying Microsoft shouldn't be producing hardware.

Went to Microsoft Store today to possibly purchase -then went to Apple Store.

Coming from Mac I actually disagree. The thing that bugs me about the non-MS hardware is the bloatware they load on it which results in it being unstable for upgrades and constant issues. I think having them produce their own hardware was the best thing they did because I think they gained a...

Went to Microsoft Store today to possibly purchase -then went to Apple Store.

I am a Mac user (and write for an online Mac publication where I wrote a 3 part series about spending 2 weeks with the SP3). I also use a Surface Pro for business because I wanted something that worked with a hardware integrated stylus and the SP3 seemed to be the best combination of hardware...
