Positive (eventually) tale of Microsoft support

Generally in the end my contact with them has worked out also. But as you point out, it is like visiting a dentist. You get your teeth fixed, but the process is going to be painful.

Just about to buy surface book questions

No screen wobble here. I suppose someone could use it differently than I do, and might get some wobble. Whenever I use multiple apps and need screen space, I used the new Win 10 multiple desktop feature.

    SB Dents...

Mine has taken a few trips in my motorcycle truck, bouncing around, in a neoprene sleeve. Haven't noticed any dents. But then, I am also firmly convinced that to have stuffed everything into this that is stuffed in, they had to make the metal very thin. It does worry me and I have been careful.

    External SSD

I'm not exactly 'down' on SSD. Just that for the $$$, you can buy two HUGE spinning media drives and use one for a backup at a remote location. Plus you have so much storage, that you can do incremental backups. I would only pay the extra for the limited size of an SSD if I was carrying it...

Surface Book loses date and time

Even after the updates? Mine hasn't done that since maybe January. I hate to say it but I would scrub the hard disk and restore the OS. Or at minimum set it to hibernate or something.

    External SSD

Unless you are doing numerous continuous random reads, I don't think you are going to see a speed improvement. In fact the write speed of an SSD may be slower. Maybe someone better informed can chime in on that. In your case I'm pretty sure a spinning drive is still the better option. You'll get...

[PSA] Surface Book keyboard manual release

You would HAVE to do the left and the right seperately. And if in the process, you accidentally pop the muscle wire off of the cam, you are totally screwed.

Brand New Surface Book owner, battery life question during Sleep, calibration, etc.

If you got the Surface Book to use the stand alone Clipboard mode, you bought the wrong device. Return it and get the Surface Pro 4. The Clipboard battery is only rated for a couple of hours. And I suspect that repeated draining, and processor heat, will short it's life quickly.

Unexpected shutdown while in sleep mode overnight

This is about the only annoyance I have with my Book right now. Everything else is working pretty good.

When's the next set of Surface firmware updates?

It is all your fault. I just found that if I use Hibernate, then detach the clipboard while it is off, then when I try to wake it up, I get a BSOD. Actually, more like a YELLOW screen of death. Doesn't matter, as I never use Hibernate. Still annoying.

    Surface Book bulge

It is where the processor presses against the cabinet for heat dissipation. I have seen others report on the issue. They all have a slight bulge there that is really hard to feel. Some get worse with time for some reason, maybe heat, maybe not.

SB Does Not "Wake" When Opening Keyboard After Long Period of Sleep

Mine does the same. It used to wake up from sleep when I opened it up. Now, after it has been asleep for a LONG time, like 4 hours, it appears to do a full shutdown. Then I have to press the power button to power it up. It started doing this a couple of months back when there was a firmware...

Poll Buying a Book Friday... storage question

With the SP4, the micro SD storage is always there, if you plan to upgrade storage. And the main battery is also attached. With the SB, if you use the clipboard, that battery is small. Me, I needed the 256gb unit. And I still added a 128gb card to help out. And I wanted the larger screen size...

Poll Buying a Book Friday... storage question

When you disconnect the clipboard section, you lose the SB card storage. Not an ideal situation if you always expect it to be there.

    Prolonged ticking/clicking after detaching (Vid)

I noticed long ago that mine actually does the exact same thing. But, you can only hear it if you have your ear pressed against the cabinet. It is very faint. I suspect it is the circuit pulsing the muscle wire to keep it hot until you detach it. For some reason yours is vibrating a lot and...

Surface Book + Surface Dock - 'Too Many USB hubs are connected together'

The keyboard base would have a hub. The Dock would have a hub. The 13 port hub may actually be a 5 port first level hub with two second level 5 port hubs (5+5 and 3 left from the first level hub = 13) So that is 4 levels. One of the devices you have may have a hub even though you don't know it...

    Surface Book design problem?

"Serious" flaw. Not really. Something that could use cleaning up in the design. Sure. Never buy release one of ANYTHING if that kind of thing bothers you. If it does bother you, you can buy a 'skin' that includes vinyl strips to protect the metal ribs on the hinge.

New Hardware Update: Is This The ONE?

Since the update, when I go to wake up my SB in the morning, I have to press the power button. Until now, I used to just tap a keyboard key. It almost feels like it has gone into hibernate and powered down everything. Though it is coming to life fairly quickly. It also does not appear to have...

Surface Book, video recorded my Son's Basketball game. It was awesome.

Are you that guy standing up and holding the tablet up in the air blocking everyone else view? Just kidding (sort of). :D A couple of years ago I made a cross country motorcycle trip. In Yellowstone, more than once, a busload of tourists would be standing by a geyser. Just as it would...

    Detach sound is so loud!

I too have seen a LOT of reviews that imply that it is a system sound. It is a mechanical sound from the muscle wire slamming open latch. You can physically feel the vibration as the clamps retract. I have verified over and over, that the sound is NOT coming from the speakers, as many reviews...
