Just landed myself a basic SP3 for Xmas

The cables are pretty standard. Just buy one. I personally like card readers.

If you plug the camera in, it should come up with a dialog box, and will import it using the default photo application.

I use USB card readers for all my cameras and import into Adobe Lightroom.

Mac to Surface? Are you still Happy?

I love my SP3 but love my iPad air 2 as well. They are different devices. On an aircraft the iPad is perfect due to light weight and long battery life. I use my SP3 as a laptop and only occasionally as a tablet. I always bring both when on holiday and the IPad gets used for browsing, reading...

Well, this is enought, no more Surfaces for me.

It is a compliment that it attracts people who have nothing better to do than whinge that after so many returns it's still no good. Apple have faced this for years in spite of producing good products. The odds of major issues are probably close to a single percent of SP3 devices so multiple...

I wear denim although I carry my 1520 on my belt so maybe it will match now.

Anyone have experience with BOTH the i5 and i7?

I found particular programs such as MYOB would run much faster on the i7, a lot faster. It uses SQL Server so it may be the extra on chip memory has an influence as it transfers tables and records back and forth. The i5 I was comparing it to is the i5 in the SP2. It was also faster on IE but...

How is that a SP3 boots up considerably faster than an ipad air 2?

I agree. I couldn't understand at the time why they didn't release a nice little laptop running RT with a bigger screen. I hope that they retain RT and release Microsoft branded products in different screen sizes and configurations including possibly a laptop.

How is that a SP3 boots up considerably faster than an ipad air 2?

Windows is unfortunately targeted by hackers. iOS is no doubt at all much safer, no antivirus required. I'm a computer technician and I'm forever removing, mainly, Javascript based malware but sometimes much worse stuff. There are also other issues that can happen with software, windows updates...

How is that a SP3 boots up considerably faster than an ipad air 2?

I agree boot up time is of academic interest only. The hardware in the SP3 is a cut above the iPad which is a very low power mobile device, in terms of performance generally. It also weighs twice as much and is much bigger and with a shorter battery life.

    Type cover opinions

I find the keyboard feel reasonable enough. Unless I was typing a long report it is fine. My only major annoyance has been the cursor jumping, deleting text. This has happened to both me using a Surface RT, Surface 2 , SP2/3 and my wife who uses the Surface 2. I wish Microsoft would just fix it.

    New Surface Pro 3

The iPad Air is great and is what I use as a tablet. I love the SP3 which is my laptop. I don't have any issues with WiFi . I agree it is nonsensical to bag the Air 2 which is recognised as a really great tablet in a forum of gadgeteers. If you search here likewise you will get people, who...

Buy Surface Pro 3 now or wait for 4

I love the Zen in this but I agree if you can ponder the question then you can wait. If you can't wait and money is a concern get the SP2 which is a great machine and you can sell it and not lose much of you buy well second hand.

Is space storage on a computer really necessary anymore ?

It is all about money. More storage is always good to have. I do use OneDrive quite a bit though for storage mainly as backup but also for sharing files.

Finally bought a SP3 to replace the SP2

I enjoyed the SP2 and even preferred the pen. The compelling reason for me was the extra speed of the i7. The trackpad is good enough I don't bother carrying my Surface Mouse and extra screen real estate is good. I did prefer the more compact dimensions of the SP2 but then with the SP3 I rarely...

    Throttling

I haven't the slightest concern about the throttling but then my usage is for general purpose such as browsing, email, inking and my accounting package, Word, Excel. It is the i7 model and it is very fast and mostly a pleasure to use. I can understand though if you are using it for gaming...

Mac to Surface? Are you still Happy?

In the end it is what the device can do for you that other devices don't. In the case of the Surface Pro, it is a unique design. It doesn't mean though that it is right for you. I think the MBA is still superior for typing. If I were a journalist, I would have the MBA in preference. No cursors...

    i5 vs i7 performance

I'd go with the i7. MYOB does use SQL server. The benchmarks just give scripted performances but are quite different to responsiveness. We don't do hundreds of tasks in a minute just lots of small tasks all the time.

    i5 vs i7 performance

The performance of one of my key programs MYOB is 2 to 3 times better with the i7. I would suggest to users to just get the i7 if they can afford it or at least try out programs, if they can, first. I think the differences in performance may relate to on board CPU memory and database programs...

Post Your SP3 WiFi/Internet Issues Here

I'd like to say I've used mine on over 100 different WiFi networks during my visits for computer servicing and I haven't ever had an issue. On my home network I am getting 91Mbs down and 2.2 up from my Telstra cable which is excellent.
