New Intel Drivers release by Microsoft for Surface Pro 2

I have three externals as well: Two via daisy-chained DP and the third via USB. They have always all worked; however, the chronic problem has always been wake-from-sleep: Unpredictable configuration changes. For example, I'd lose one or more monitors, switch to low-resolution, switch from...

    Who's getting one?

You can definitely count me in! I purposely skipped the 3, so I still have just the 2; therefore, it is now time to get the latest model. ;) Since I'll be skipping a generation, I'll definitely notice the differences, regardless of its specs. However, I can only hope and pray that I am not...

    Windows 10 upgrade on a SP2 thread

Normally, my Update settings are set to notify me and let me choose when to download and install. But on July 28th, I changed it to automatically download and install. In the morning of the 29th, my SP2 had it, but not my SP1. When I proceeded to start the install on the SP2, it seemed to be...

    Windows 10 upgrade on a SP2 thread

So you haven't been able to upgrade at all?

    Windows 10 upgrade on a SP2 thread

No problems here for me with power button/shutting down/sleep after the upgrade. However... 1) Multi-Monitor Support I have three external 2560x1600 monitors; two are daisy-chained via the DisplayPort and the third is via a USB-to-DisplayPort cable. Unfortunately, the DisplayLink driver that...

Windows Update keeps reverting its settings

Thanks for sharing! I'm in the same situation and also running Bitdefender, so I'm glad to now know the root cause. Yes, it has been quite annoying to keep changing back the settings. On the (hopefully) bright side, however, I'm hoping this problem goes away on July 29. :D

Bluetooth Mouse for Surface Pro 3

I switched from MS Arc to the T630 and have never looked back since! It is the only mouse I use--even for my work laptop (ThinkPad).

    The Verge Review

But this certainly isn't a Surface problem. I understand that you want to use the Surface as a barometer to find and select another class of device, but if the market does not have type of device (or does not have it at a price you can afford), then your option is to either wait or select the...

    The Verge Review

I replaced my ThinkPad laptop with the SP1 and never looked back. But that still does not make the Surface a laptop. A single USB port and a single mini DP port? That's all?! And the physical keyboard is extra??!! What??!! Well, for me, sure, not a problem! However, if I started to moan...

    The Verge Review

There are so many Windows laptops and ultrabooks available that it shouldn't be a problem to find the right one that suits your needs. Then there's the Surface: It is neither a laptop nor an ultrabook, so don't consider it if those are your needs.

    (Kernel-Power-Exception) Reboot/Crash after/while in sleep mode

I have an SP2 and am currently experiencing this issue. I, too, searched all over the internet, found all sorts of proposed solutions, but nothing has worked for me. The problem only started to happen after the last firmware update, so I am convinced that is the culprit in my case.

    Microsoft Store Distribution

I had a friend who used to work in Good Guys back in the day and he told always told me to beware of the salesperson and what they were trying to push you to buy. He said it was common practice for Vendors to have "commission promotions" where, for example, Vendor B's TV would generate a higher...

Using OneDrive App With Cloud-Based Files Only

Well, I haven't heard otherwise, so I presume that the app does, indeed, only work with local files. As such, I haven't been using it; instead, I use the web-based interface. I also installed the iPhone app, so that I can have access to my files via my phone, so that has worked out great.

Does the reveal of the new Surface 3 mean a longer wait for the Surface Pro 4?

Yep...especially when you have just two models, one entry-level and the other top-of-the-line. Simple, if you ask me.

Surface 3 Answers from Reddit Ask Me Anything

For me, I'd say mystery rather than surprise! It is like a vendor--in this day and age--releasing a PC that only supports USB 1.0 and nothing higher! Why in the world would they take a step backward with the DP port?!

SP4 may have NO Ports, Zero, None.

I have to admit that if there were tangible benefits of switching to a micro USB port (e.g., slimmer and lighter design), then I'd all be for it because it would just be a matter of purchasing an adapter. We are definitely in the computing age where software, music, movies, etc. are downloaded...

SP4 may have NO Ports, Zero, None.

In my house, everything is wired unless it is absolutely not worth the effort/cost to enable the device to be wired. So, for me, that means I have wireless headsets along with my iPhone and iPad; everything else is wired (e.g., DVD Player, Satellite Receiver, A/V Receiver, etc.).

Does the reveal of the new Surface 3 mean a longer wait for the Surface Pro 4?

I admit that I had the same gut reaction...then I paused and realized that consumers are already accustomed to choosing amongst various models within the same brand. I don't know whether it is Apple or "something in the air" that has all of a sudden caused us to "panic" when we see multiple...

    The Surface 3 waiting room

So now that the Surface lines are both Intel-based running full Windows, that certainly eliminates the RT confusion for the everyday consumer. I think it is good that they introduced such an entry-level device at that price. For me, I don't have a Use Case for it but I can certainly see those...
