Windows 10 Preview on Surface Pro 3

I do need a bit of help. I chose to do a refresh, the full one, it prompted that BitLocker would be turned off, no problems. So it kicked off, then rebooted into an American megatrends prompt asking me to hit f12 to clear tpm, that I did. The machine then rebooted immediately into a recovery...

Windows 10 Preview on Surface Pro 3

I'm seeing a blue screen on boot after last weeks upgrade, once or twice on every boot cycle, still manages to boot. I'm more inclined to reinstall rather than troubleshoot. What is the best option to get things back to absolute fresh install? A using the inbuilt reset capability, will this...

Windows 10 Preview on Surface Pro 3

My c:\Windows.old was 15.3 GB, be gone, I'd rather a fresh install than regressing to .old.

Windows 10 Preview on Surface Pro 3

After the upgrade my Surface Arc mouse wasn't scrolling properly, found that removing it from bluetooth devices and re-pairing it fixed the issue. I'm getting more general fan noise so far, nothing major, however where the fan wasn't running at all previously, it is now (with all apps...

Windows 10 Preview on Surface Pro 3

new build installed on my SP3, upgrading from clean/fresh install. Had a bluescreen (very blue, and no words) after the first re-boot when I tried to fire up outlook. Powered down ok and after reboot everything seems fine (with the exception of a Lync error on startup, but don't care about...

Windows 10 Preview on Surface Pro 3

So you should see quite a few svchost.exe processes, you can right click and choose "Go to service(s)". The relevant services should then be shown on the "services" tab, selected. You can then extend your investigation a little more. I've not had this issue with my SP3 with Windows 10, luckily.

    SP3 constant fan

I'm running mostly on Firefox with the Flash Block plugin by Philip Chee, no issues with CPU or FAN speed. https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/user/philip-chee/?src=api Whilst I love the scrolling performance of IE, the external monitor scaling issues just annoy me too much to use as my...

Independent monitor scaling, any hope in Windows 10?

Thanks again for the reply, I see where you are coming from, shame that IE doesn't give us the ability to disable scaling. This screen capture shows the kind of issue I'm talking about, seems odd (especially when you look at the X in each window) that IE doesn't seem to follow other apps that...

Independent monitor scaling, any hope in Windows 10?

zhenya, thanks for the response, however my view is this isn't the way its supposed to work. Look at any other application that supports scaling correctly, the window "elements" (boarder/menus/toolbar etc) aren't supposed to grow to be oversized. That is why we now have different scaling DPI...

Independent monitor scaling, any hope in Windows 10?

So what is going on with my Internet Explorer? When I pop it on the external low res monitor, the window elements are massive, same is not true of Firefox and Chrome. To be honest, I'd rather use Firefox, however scrolling with touch just doesn't cut it, it is so jerky. Am I holding it wrong ;)

Would you convert to an iPad Pro and replace your SP3?

Having lived on both sides of the Windows & OSX fence, my preference for desktop is Windows. Main reason is the windowing in OSX is odd, things can go missing (for example a second browser window, that doesn't show in expose or anywhere else other than the window menu), also the top menu bar...

Thanks for the keyboard brightness control tip, great stuff.

Windows 10 Preview on Surface Pro 3

I guess I've just been lucky for once, Windows 10 TP is for me more stable than 8.1, especially restoring WIFI connections when coming out of connected standby, general application stability and odd multi monitor issues. Batter life is probably down from 7-8 hours to 5ish, in my current job I'm...

Windows 10 Preview on Surface Pro 3

Hi All, just wondering if anyone can confirm if they have managed to get around the looping install of "System Firmware Update - 27/01/2015". I've read pages of threads where the issue is reported, however haven't managed to find any solution.

    Secondary Monitor scaling

"Which is why I'd like a size slider for each monitor, just like we can select resolution and orientation for each." Yep that is exactly what we all want, sadly not present in Windows 8, Windows 8.1 or Windows 10 (as of build 10.0.9962). For me, only a few apps actually highlight this issue...

Windows 10 Preview on Surface Pro 3

Yes I'm seeing this quite a bit, sometimes unplugging and plugging the power fixes it, other times pressing the button a few times brings it back. I've not actually had to do a full re-boot. Anyone got any suggestions as to what we can to do identify the power-on issue, perhaps a device that...

Windows 10 Preview on Surface Pro 3

Using BatteryBar Pro, I see my Windows 10 SP3 discharge rate is about 8383 mW per hour. From memory Windows 8.1 was more 7000. I don't think this is too bad at all for a Technical Preview, still results in about 5 hours of battery run. This is with full screen brightness and the default...

Independent monitor scaling, any hope in Windows 10?

Hi Leeshor, thanks for the reply. Yes I see a few discussions about Windows 8.X, and a few mentions about Windows 10. My question was more about if anyone had seen anything public where Microsoft have confirmed if this is in scope for resolution (nothing that I've seen so far). I guess the...

Independent monitor scaling, any hope in Windows 10?

Hi All, Sad to see that the ability to set display scaling for each monitor separately hasn't made it into Windows 10. Has anyone seen anywhere at all that Microsoft has any plan to resolve as part of Windows 10? The only app that is absolutely killing me now is Internet Explorer, when I...
