Sorry to hear about your woes and your inability to find it in store. I am on my 2nd SP3 i5 and I returned the first one due to a malfunctioning touch screen and checked it out in the store before I left and have been perfectly happy with it.

I tested the new driver with a Steam game - Tomb Raider and it seems to have better performance vs the older driver. The frame rates are a bit better and the graphics do not lag like they used to.

Well, I tried it again and manually added the new driver to the list of installed drivers and it seemed like it worked, but the driver revision on the device manager still only shows 10.18.10.3907

Send that back for warranty replacement. Sounds like the fan bearings have been damaged and the fins are rubbing against the casing.
