Surface App shows all zeros(0) for serial number...

How I miss the disk led on most new computers. I really liked having a disk activity led when trouble shooting computer problems.

    SP4 for business use.

Thank you guys. It's good to hear some positives about the SP4. I'm not going to be as worried about it after hearing what you all said. I know that a lot of people on the forum have reported problems with the various display drivers. I know my clients won't care or even know about the Intel...

    SP4 for business use.

Looks like you can't find any SP3s 8gig 512gig. Are SP4's reliable enough for business? Will be used all over the world. Mostly Internet, email, & Office 365. I support all the micros where I work. I'm not looking for a big headache.

    Lots of duplicate updates

Has anybody else been getting a ton of these "Update for Microsoft Visual C++ 2012 Update 4 Redistributable Package (KB3119142)"? I've been received several just about everyday for the paste 3 weeks.

    Solved Type Cover not working

I just setup a new SP3 with Windows 10 pre-installed. I did the updates right away which included the version 1511 and several others. I setup the system with a docking station and a wireless keyboard and mouse and connected to a monitor. Everything went smooth until the person came to my desk...

    Solved Finally - a problem

I wonder what normal symptoms are if you let you Surface battery go down to zero. I would assume you should be able to plug in a power adapter and have it boot up normally. I always plug mine in whenever I have AC near by so my battery probably rarely gets below 50 or 60 percent.

Solved Disabling Home button (not Volume )

Excuse me for being in the dark but which is the "Home" button on the Surface? Never mind. I found it on the F9 key on the keyboard. Sorry, for the interruption but I don't know how to disable a key on the Surface keyboard.

    Still love the 3s

Too late. My manager, who normally is more conservative about moving to a new OS, is ready to start moving to W10. I personally moved to W10 as soon as the trial started and have not experienced any problems that I can for sure pin on W10. Also my boss watches the dollars closely and wants to...

    New Firmware Release and Update...

I'll speak as a service rep. Roll back and test. If the problem goes away don't install the update and wait for another. If the problem still occurs, do the update again.

Could it be that Microsoft does and is capable of doing a lot more (albeit, sometimes more difficult) than Apple does.

    Still love the 3s

My boss just bought 7 more 3s for our office. Just wanted to mention a couple things. He could no longer find 3s with 8.1. Our company is about to start upgrading to 10 since it's hard to buy anything that doesn't have 10 on it. I also wanted to forewarn folks that these new 3s, even though they...

Well I tried to hang in there with SB and SP4

Right on DavidZ. That kind of attitude will take you far. This might date me. I was a teenager for a better part of the 50s & a happy owner of the Radio Shack Model 1 with tape cassette input and I believe 4K or 16K of memory. It came out in 78.

    invalid value for registry (photos)

Are your photos stored on drive C. If not, see what happens if you store a few in the Pictures folder and open them using Windows Explorer. Make sure the photo extension is recognized by the application that is trying to open them. Sometimes you need to set the right app as the default to open...

Well I tried to hang in there with SB and SP4

A little patience along with a lot of common sense is a virtue when owning a Surface computer. It pays big dividends in the long run. Actually, you could say that for just about any computer.

    Type Cover Backlighting Settings

I don't have an answer for you but I know what you mean. When it's dark and you want to start typing and can't see the keys. What I have found helps is if you just touch the track pad, the keyboard will light up and you can see where to place your hands to start typing.

Windows 10. Love it or hate it?

Lots of great features to get excited about. I like it. I'm a tech working on a project to convert my 100 plus customers to Windows 10 from 7 or 8.1 in the case of my Surface clients. I like the fact that there isn't a lot of bloat software to uninstall. The first thing I do is put IE 11 on the...

Surface Pro 4 Screen goes blank

Could it be something as simple as a Power Options (right click on Start button) setting such as the time it takes before putting the computer to sleep. For instance if it was set for 1 minute and you paused for a bit in your operation and didn't move the mouse or press a key on the keyboard for...

    SD card not recognized

I question the validity of a 200gb SD card. If it actually says 200gb on the card I think it might be a fake. Usually memory doesn't increment like that. Are you sure it isn't a 256 gig memory card that of course displays a lot less than 256 gig when you look at the SD card properties in file...

Get Surface Pro 4 or wait for Surface Pro 5 or iPad Pro

Cost was not mentioned in your original question so I assume cost is not a big factor. I would go with the SP4 I7-256-8. You say you need it to last your at least 8 hours. Almost certainly during some of the 8 hours, the computer will be sleeping or hibernating so I bet you it will last you 8...
