I would have tried a reset to factory and if that didn't help I'd go back to the store I bought it from and show them a few of the problems and see if one of their techs could assist you in resolving your problems.

I would say if you can sit it on your bare legs without it leaving red marks on your leg, it's not too hot. If it get's too hot to use, it will let you know.

Throttling provides a great benefit to the user. It saves your CPU from burning up. I'm glad they thought of it. I guess I'm a dumb happy user because I don't know when the CPU is throttling or if it ever has done it. As a matter of fact, I've never heard a fan since I've owned my first Surface RT.

Every USB DVD drive I've ever used came with a CD disk with software (I call it junk stuff) that you never have to use. USB DVD drives or plug and play so you don't need to install any software for them to work.

That's good news. Maybe you can live with that. You can also do as I do. If I'm going to be away from my Surface for awhile, I power mine down. Since I have power handy most of the time, I don't bother with using hibernation or sleep.

If you haven't already, you should scan for malware with Malwarebytes. It has fixed a ton of computers I service over the past dozen years.

You're telling me. I would have never thought to check the date because of these weird problems. I'm so use to the date automatically being right from being on a domain. I know that there can be other weird symptoms when the date is off. I will never forget this one.
