I would just make sure it isn't connected to the Internet, either wifi or cable. That should prevent it from trying to download so you can get your PowerPoint presentation done.

Maybe your Surface is just warming up to it's owner. Mine is always warm near the top right hand side in back of the screen. BTW I have owned different Surfaces since the first one (RT) came out in 2012 and have never heard a fan once on any of them. I still have all of them.

It doesn't David. It also doesn't just copy all your files from the Surface to the OneDrive cloud, it only copies and than synchronizes files that you designate to be OneDrive files.

It sounds like you're saying that OneDrive is adding files to your Surface. It shouldn't be adding any files to your Surface. You just pick and choose what you want to copy to OneDrive so that they are backed up and available to share with others or just to be available on any other computers...

I agree with leeshor, you don't want to be doing anything while a huge file like that is downloading. I would start the download when you go to bed and it will be done when you get up.

While you're learning and testing out the apps you need, I would recommend that you stay away from using the tablet mode. Unlike most tablets, the SP's or desktop friendly and operated assume in the desktop mode. As you find out what of you apps works well in the mode, than start experimenting...

About all I use these days is Edge and it resizes fine in non-tablet mode. By the way, I'm with you about tablet mode. If I was using the Surface in the field a lot, I might try and use the tablet mode more often. And I don't use Chrome or Firefox unless a site just doesn't display correctly...
