Yes the SP3 is still very relevant today although for this price I imagine this to be with 4gb ram and not 8. But still it should do what you are talking about just fine as it was/is a workhorse!

I do remember the SP3 being a very solid machine. Have you upgraded to the SP4 pen and keyboard? If not you might want to consider one or both once they come out for the new Surface. Those if compatible with the SP3 might make some pretty sweet upgrades.
